, I really think your doctor was wrong not to prescrtibe a CPM

machine as this is what got my bend back after I fell down our

stairs (11 of them). I had just been in for a manipulation under

anaesthtic (MUA) because of severe build up of scar tissue due to

complications in the first few days after the initial LTKR surgery

they had me on the CPM machine for 4 days in hospital after that as

there is not use having an MUA done and not using a CPM to help keep

the bend and stop the scars buidling back up.....thats what I was

told by my surgeon.

2 days after getting home I fell down 11 stairs and lost the bend

back to 40 degrees. My surgeon wanted to do another MUA but I

persuaded him to let me hire a CPM which I had to do myself with the

help of my PT and paid for it myself, as we do not get these on

prescription here in UK.

Within 6 days I had managed to get my bend back to 110 by using the

CPM all night every night, just increasing the degree of the bend

slighly each night....I hired it for 2 weeks initially but decided to

carry on hiring the CPM machine for 4 weeks total and now have a 130

degree bend which I am amazed at and so is my Surgeon.

I am now able to walk without any support like canes or crutches.

Can you not hire a CMP machine yourself???? Or even buy one off ebay

as there seems to be loads for sale on ebay in the States for very

cheap prices. Mine was a & Nephew Kinetic machine.

I cannot believe that amputation is all they can offer you now,

surely even the neurologist could consider trying you on a CPM even

if it means another MUA first and then having the machine at home for

a few weeks afterwards. Do suggest it to him/gher when you see them.

But as a last resort do consider either buying or hiring a CPM

machine yourself and see how it helps you. You have nothing to lose

by trying that and possibly a lot to gain. My heart goes out to you
