Guest guest
You sound like you're doing so well. Thanks for telling us about your progress. I've had one hip done and need to have knee done pretty soon and have heard so many different stories about recovery time - compared with many of those you are doing really well. Guest guest
Hi , Your progress so far pretty much matches up with what I experienced. I only had one knee done (left) in May '09 so it's not really a fair comparison but I would say you're doing fine. Try to remember that this is a process and will take some time but more than likely, considering where you are, in a few months you won't remember any of the pain and discomfort. There may be a small setback here and there but just keep doing your pt and home exercises and you'll be fine. Also you have the benefit of being in good shape and younger than a lot of us here so healing should be faster. One important thing is that every body is different and to compare results is not fair to you. Be happy with where you are and continue to work at it. I had both knees replaced on 12/13 so I am about 5 weeks out. At this point I am walking with a cane outside of the house and can walk without it in the house. I just started driving this week and back to the office a few afternoons per week. I am doing PT on my own on a daily basis and with a therapist 3 times per week. Still have pain and discomfort and take my pain med's 3 to 4 times in a 24 hour period. I am 50 years old and in relatively good shape outside of the knees. I am interested in getting some feedback from others in the group that have experienced what i am going through, I am trying to figure out if I am on track, ahead of or behind where I should be at this point. How long should it be before I can wlak without discomfort. I am trying to work on gaining strength and flexibility. I am at about 100 deg. with one knee and about 90 with the other. I know that I have asked for alot of feedback but I really would appreciate some replies. Thanks, in Ohio ------------------------------------
Guest guest
Hello , I had a bilateral knee replacement on July 22, 2010, so I am 6 months out from my surgery. From what you describe, you sound right on track. I was very busy with my PT and still had some pain and discomfort, but it got better weekly. I was not taking many pain meds, especially once I started driving at about 5 weeks. I only took them at night, mainly to help me sleep. This WILL get better! I was never really a doubter, but when you are in the thick of things, sometimes you question why you did this. At 6 months out, I have NO question that it was the best decision I have ever made. I would absolutely do both again, if I was asked. I am just 52, so we are about the same age. I have already had a hip replaced as well. Don't try to push too hard and be " macho " . That can get you in trouble. You can feel free to contact me privately or on here. Good luck with your new knees! in PA Bilateral TKR - 7/22/2010 Left Hip - 7/2007 > > Hello, I just joined this group. I had both knees replaced on 12/13 so I am about 5 weeks out.
