Guest guest
, which did you find a harder process........your hip or knee replacement? Few here have had both done. I had the hip done on 11.11.2010 and need a knee done......just trying to get some opinions.......Any others had both done? BARB in Florida Re: New to the group double TKR 12-13 Hello , I had a bilateral knee replacement on July 22, 2010, so I am 6 months out from my surgery. From what you describe, you sound right on track. I was very busy with my PT and still had some pain and discomfort, but it got better weekly. I was not taking many pain meds, especially once I started driving at about 5 weeks. I only took them at night, mainly to help me sleep. This WILL get better! I was never really a doubter, but when you are in the thick of things, sometimes you question why you did this. At 6 months out, I have NO question that it was the best decision I have ever made. I would absolutely do both again, if I was asked. I am just 52, so we are about the same age. I have already had a hip replaced as well. Don't try to push too hard and be " macho " . That can get you in trouble. You can feel free to contact me privately or on here. Good luck with your new knees! in PA Bilateral TKR - 7/22/2010 Left Hip - 7/2007 > > Hello, I just joined this group. I had both knees replaced on 12/13 so I > am about 5 weeks out. Guest guest
Hi Barb, I'm not but am a THR and TKR. I found the hip harder than the knee, but perhaps that is due to the type of hip replacement done. I had the open wide down the side and across the butt cheek - about 20 inches was the cut - ouchie. And again with revisions on both, the hip was harder than the knee. Overall tho, I am very pleased to be active! Guest guest
, my surgeon called his type of incision a lateral.........on the very outside of the hip but only about 7 inches long.......so lots of things were cut.........but I had very little pain......it is taking a while for the muscle to heal and get its strength back but I was very pleased overall with the whole process........10 weeks ago I wondered though. Thank you for your response, . I have another friend who says that her hip were worse than knee too........BARB RE: hip and knee Hi Barb, I'm not but am a THR and TKR. Guest guest
It's kind of a tough call. Of course I just had the one hip, but since my knees were already so bad, it hurt to do anything. I also hated all of the restrictions at the beginning. With the knees, it was two at the same time, so that is hard to compare since I did not have a good leg to stand on. As with most things, as time passes, you sort of forget a lot. Basically I can say if you are in a lot of pain and injections, etc., don't help anymore, we are lucky to have the option of a replacement. It is relatively safe and has generally a good outcome. > > > > Hello, I just joined this group. I had both knees replaced on 12/13 so I > > am about 5 weeks out.
