Hello ,

Thank you for the reply.. I'm not sure what happened to my post... I know it

said that it must be approved after I clicked post.. and that was the last I had

seen of it??

Do you mean you have had AVN for 35 years or was diagnosed at the age of 35?

I am 40 years old, Male and live in Indiana. I have been a brick mason for

22

of those years..

In July of 2010 I had some groin pain that I thought was a pulled muscle.. It

went away after about three days.. It returned in Late September with a

vengeance. It happened one morning rolling out of bed.. Bam !! the pain almost

took my breath away.. I limped around a couple weeks and finally went to the

Doctors... Sent to an OS and ordered to take MRI... Results : Bilateral AVN of

the hips.. Rather advanced AVN in Left Hip.. Early stage II in Right hip..

I underwent a Core Decompression on the Left hip on Nov. 18th 2010.. I did

the

six weeks non-weight bearing.. and was released off the crutches almost 5 weeks

ago.. My pain has slowly returned to the pre-op stage.. I have what I have heard

others call " start up Pain "  I limp the 1st 5 to 15 steps when trying to

walk after being seated for awhile.. Then can walk with maybe a pain level o f

1

or 2 out of 10.. but at start up it is sometimes a 4.

Not I need to make the decision of what to do with the right asymptomatic

hip.. I really would like to have the CD done on it, but have the concern of the

weight being solely being put on the Left symptomatic hip.. I have tried a

couple three times to stand up and use the crutches without using my good leg.

It is really difficult...

Then there is the whole Maybe Maybe Not ordeal with the CD in itself.. OS gave

me about a 60% chance of success on Left problem hip.. Which I think was high,

because I already was showing minimal collapse on it... My right hip is still

preserved and he gave me about the same odds that it will not progress..

So here I am torn in the decision making process of what to do next.. Should I

still take the chance of the other CD? I don't know if I will be happy if I

don't and the hip progresses without me at least trying..

And then there is the hip I have had cored already.. it has only been 11

weeks. How much time should I give it before I just say that's it.. I want a

THR?

Sorry to make a novel out of this..

Thanks for reading, Bill in Indiana
