It's been 4 months since my surgery for right hip replacement. I had spinal anaesthesia and was up on my feet the following day, using a walker. I was in hospital for 5 days and then was transferred to a rehab facility for 2 weeks of intensive physio on crutches because I was only partial weight bearing, thanks to a cement-less procedure. I went to rehab because I live alone (with no immediate support group available) on the first floor of a house with stairs at both the front and back entrances. It was the best thing I could have done for myself as I felt fairly confident when I returned home able to navigate the stairs. However, when my left hip finally needs replacing (and it will according to my surgeon) I will make sure that it is done in the spring so that I am not housebound during the winter months when the weather is as bad as it was this year. I am now walking without any

assistive device and walking as well as I used to before my hip became a problem and am looking forward to this spring and summer when I can start hiking again. It is amazing how much better I feel since the surgery now that I am no longer in any pain and am not exhausted . All in all, a really good outcome for me. Ellen in Canada
