Guest guest
Well, Liz, you’re probably feeling panicked right now but take a deep breath – it’s nearly August, and you and your son are probably used to Augusts without school services anyway, so hopefully this one won’t feel too different or be any more challenging for him than they’ve been in the past. Do you have plans in place to keep his days filled and productive while you continue to search for other options? With Home Based money you can design whatever kinds of days he would like – maybe start with what he does right now, in summer school – are some of those activities sustainable beyond the next two weeks? Does he go out into the community with school? Volunteer anywhere? What does he usually do in August when there’s no school in session? Use what time you have remaining with your school staff to get contact information for any community sites he visits or volunteers at. You can contact them directly & set up continued visits there with paid staff you pay with Home Based Waiver funds. Anywhere he has structured routines will help. Perhaps your PSWs could still go in and observe/meet with school staff and see how they work with your son for the next few weeks, too. When you’re through crying out the frustration, know that there are options available but they do require legwork and/or time on your part to get set up. This likely won’t be resolved within the next two weeks. My advice is – come up with an interim plan of PSWs to help your son get through the next few weeks/months. Use that time to figure out a longer-term solution. Maybe if you give yourself ‘til Labor Day’ to figure this out, it won’t be so overwhelming. Hope that helps, Laurie From: Liz Youhana Sent: Wednesday, July 20, 2011 4:29 PM IPADDUnite Subject: HELP Hi all, I need help. Today I found out the place we've been looking at for my son is not taking anyone at this time. He graduated in June and has 2 weeks of summer school left. After that.....nothing. I do have HBS and have 2 people coming in a few hours a week. He has behavior issues and I have never left him with them. I've already been in a panic, as many of you can understand, that I may not even be able to run to the store by myself to pick up milk. I live in the southern suburbs and looking for a workshop or day program. I went to check out Easter Seals program today and they have no openings. Any suggestions? Thanks for letting me vent......trying to hold back tears. Liz
Guest guest
Hi Liz, Have you checked out Elim Christian's adult program? They are in Tinley Park. Thais
Guest guest
Yes I did check out Elim.  He is autistic and the program seams great.....but for higher functioning. It's a very happy place. I believe the name is Oasis. And thanks .......you did help to calm me. By the way I've been doing alot of leg work. I know not to depend on others if you need to get things done. I think I'm upset because we've been waiting to here from Trinity (months) about Safe Now. They should have let us know awhile ago that there were no openings. I've been calling and finally got ahold of someone who pushed for me. As you know this process is exhausting. But believe me I will not give up. Something better will turn up. Thanks , Liz PS I did call the school district and asked if anyone knows of any programs. The problem is I want to keep him at home right now and many programs are just to far from here.  From: Francis PALLUAU <fpalluau@...> IPADDUnite Sent: Wednesday, July 20, 2011 6:46 PM Subject: Re: HELP  Hi Liz, Have you checked out Elim Christian's adult program? Guest guest
One of the best programs that CPs offers is at Mc Pherson School. I also like Easter Seals in Chicago. Higher Functioing ASD students do well at Mc Pherson. Also there is a school called Positive Connections. I hope this helps! Guest guest
Hi Liz: I wish I knew the resources in your area a little better. I don't know if you work, but if you do not, you might consider having the new respite people shadow you with your son, in the community. If they can pick up your techniques for supporting your son, that might be useful...Otherwise a trusted past teacher or therapist might be able to do something like that, so that you can feel more comfortable with the personal support workers that you have coming to work with your son. Your son's PSW's can, perhaps, get him involved in local volunteer efforts...Meals on Wheels, stocking the local food pantry. Perhaps there is another young adult in a similar situation and the two can buddy to go on community outings or to work out together at a local gym along with a PSW? In our community, several different groups of parents, frustrated with traditional day programs and limited options for young adults, started their own programs...two of which have become very successful, well attended, albeit, private pay community based programs. When the school bus stops coming, it can be very scary...those of us who have been there, empathize with you. Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@... Guest guest
Hi Liz I am from Tinley Park. What south suburb do you live in? What kinds of things would your son enjoy doing? I am glad to help if I can. I grew up there and used to work in the south suburbs. I am dating myself but I set up the first on the job training programs there fir the ARC of Illinois, oh so many years ago. I am in Spain now helping my oldest who just delivered a baby boy. Mom and baby are fine. I should be back in a week. Hang in there. With HBS you can possibly get him a life coach to go to the gym, take walks in town, maybe even find a job. Did you like any of his aides from school? Was there a high school senior from best buddies you could hire? Guest guest
_OffTopicChat/ Everyone, join the off-topic group for guilt-free off-topic chatter! Back to kefir here! Larry From: on <opiewan@...> Subject: Help Date: Monday, July 9, 2012, 2:05 PM Marilynn, I am not one to usually complain about things on an open list, but would it be possible to get back to Kefir in general?? I really dont think rubbing milk of magnesia in one's armpits has anything to do with Kefir! Please help return this list to what should be discussed, Kefir! Thanks in advance,
Guest guest
What kefir does not do, cold thermogenesis will. (Had to keep it on topic for this group so I mentioned the word kefir.) jackkruse.com Read the blog. This is a real brain bender but not only for geeks. Us common folk can get some of it. A good one to start with is #7 on circadian rhythms. http://jackkruse.com/cold-thermogenesis-7/ To know how to do it read Leptin Rx http://jackkruse.com/the-evolution-of-the-leptin-rx/ If you are the least bit interested once you had a taste of the wisdom of Dr. Jack Kruse, be sure to read the comments below each blog. People ask question and Jack answers each and every one. What a great calling he has. I am so thankful had him as his guest on oneradionetwork.comrecently. I am moving this over to the off topic chat. I hope some of you try it and we can compare notes. Marilyn On Mon, Jul 9, 2012 at 3:46 PM, <ouched63188@...> wrote: > Marilyn, you are too funny!... Guest guest
Greetings, Actually it does. Many people use kefir to boost their calcium intake. But, in order for that to work, you also need to boost your magnesium intake. So, in order for your body to get the most out of your kefir, you need to use Milk of Magnesia as your deodorant. It all seems pretty on topic to me. Guest guest
So I have to now go buy some Milk of Magnesia. I guess it can't be worse than using Pepto Bismol on my arm pits, and maybe I won't have the pink stain on my shirts either. I think missed his kefir today. But just in case, do we have any current or retired Generals on the list? if so that would cover " kefir in general " :-) Also, too much " on topic " leads to people saying " read the archives " or " read the FAQ " because there was a similar discussion 4 years ago. That's not how you build a community. Leo On Mon, Jul 9, 2012 at 6:30 PM, Garth & Kim <gartht@...>wrote: > ** > > > Greetings, > Actually it does.
