Guest guest
Hi all of you bionics... well....I'm really on the countdown now! March 10 at 6am! I cannot wait for this event to take place. I haven't been able to walk even a block without pain, and that just doesn't cut it with me, as I'm sure with none of you out there! I had my pre-op with the OS on Thursday morning, and he's so great! The anterior approach, using the high tech table where they use the boots on your feet, and a De Puy prosthesis: titanium, cobalt, and all the stuff to help the bone to grow. The magic words that came out of his mouth: NO RESTRICTIONS!!!!!! How about that??? There are actually a couple; stretching the " fake " leg back, or pivoting the foot, and then putting weight on it. He says that I won't need to go to in patient rehab, and that the pain is usually handled with only vicodin, and tylenol after surgery! What's up in the air until the morning of surgery is the type of anesthesia. OS likes to use the spinal, because your muscles relax more that with general, but in my case, when I had a spinal with my c-section baby, I had a spinal leak, which caused all kinds of problems, ie, headache bonging, which they had to fix with a " blood " patch, which was a pretty gruesome procedure, and had other problems attached to the outcome! Other than these little unknowns, I'm ready to go...and it won't me a moment too soon; I could have done years ago, but I didn't get what the problem was......I kept thinking it was my psoas muscle that just needed more, or less, stretching! NOPE...just bone on bone in the hip joint, and there's only one remedy for that! If anyone has good, bad, or indifferent experience with the anesthesia, could you give your experience, so that I can get some insight about how to facilitate the decision when I see the anesthesiolegist on the morning of the surgery.... Thanks to you all for all your chatter, and ideas about your experiences...It's been very comforting and helpful. best to all, Lisel
