Guest guest
Update: My surgeon has called in an antibiotic today and wants to see me on Wednesday. I don't have a fever and I hope its just the area of the incision that is infected. I'll keep y'all posted. You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it. Infection (From The Moderator) - If you think your wound is infected, GOinto the MD's office so that they can see the wound and get you on the appropriate antibiotics. They may also want to culture the wound because the goal would be to get you on the CORRECT one. Some antibiotics are general and cover MOST infections but others cover specific ones. You want to know that the right one is being prescribed and helping to do the job. Otherwise, you can delay the healing process... Thanks! Guest guest
, if you think you wound is infected, insist that they take a culture BEFORE administering antibiotics of any type. The reason for this is that, as stated earlier, different antibiotics are required for different types of infections. If you wait until taking antibiotics, it is very likely that the culture will not develop due to the presence of an antibiotic in the tissue. If that happens, there is little alternative to ramp all the way up to vancomycin infusion for an extended period of time if the initial oral administration does not work. There are very good resources out there for diagnosing and treating infections of joint infections, either superficial (defined as outside the sac enclosing the actual joint and often from staples) and deep infections that are in the joint and necessitate its removal for two to three months, irrigation and abriding of the area to assure healing from the infection. Good luck and be your own best and loudest advocate. This is absolutely nothing to trifle with.
