Guest guest
Good morning..my name is lynne and I am from Michigan. I am having a total knee replacement done on my left knee on Monday. Believe me it can't happen soon enough. I have been getting everything ready and all this running around has caused my knees to really get very painful. Once we get the left one back I will have the right one done. I have severe arthritis in almost all of my joints and had a shoulder replacement done 2 years ago, I can't raise my arm very high but there is no pain and that is a blessing. I had nerve damage before my surgery and did months of pt after but I have adapted. I would love to hear from anyone that has had knee replacement done. Looking forward to hearing from you. Guest guest
Hi lynne, You have reached the right place. Many of us on this blog have had TKRs. Mine was done in New York on 12/09/09. After 2 1/2 years I go on 4-7 mile walks and play tennis. One of our contributors has had shoulder, knee and hip replacements. I'll leave it to her to compare the one you have had and the one you are having. My advice would be to get in as good physical shape you can with the left leg to make sure your muscles are ready for the added insult. I am sure your OS or hospital will provide you with the correct exercises. Get you home in place to receive you, and your cook ready to feed you once you are off the meds. ( I found I was really not hungry and the added weight loss was all good!) All the best, Joan ________________________________ From: Lynne <lynanncol@...> Joint Replacement Sent: Saturday, July 23, 2011 1:34 PM Subject: Total knee replacement  Good morning..my name is lynne and I am from Michigan. Guest guest
Hi Lynne, Both of my knees are now two years old! I had TKR done 7/16/09 on the left, and 7/20/09 on the right. I was bone on bone in both joints, in severe pain all the time (even with pain meds), and had contractures in both knees as well. After the first surgery, my OS told my husband and parents my knees were two of the worst he'd ever seen. You sound like a kindred spirit to me. My surgery couldn't happen soon enogh either. People thought I was nutty looking forward to surgery and the rehab involved, but they didn't feel the pain that I dealt with all the time. Good luck with your surgery on Monday, and know there are a lot of us on this list who will be rooting for you. > Total knee replacement > > Good morning..my name is lynne and I am from Michigan. Guest guest
Hi Lynne, Best of luck with your surgery. I had my left knee done in May '09 and I don't even think about it any longer. Like you I was anxious to get it taken care of and be done with the pain. My right knee isn't quite as bad but it's getting there. I also had a reverse shoulder replacement on the right side in Oct '10 and the left needs the same fairly soon. If you made it through rehab on your shoulder you'll be fine with the knee. Just keep working, doing the exercises, use plenty of ice and elevate the leg and you'll be fine.
