Guest guest
Hi , Yes, I do think they are all different in what they tell you. I asked about kneeling when I had my 6 week checkup last summer and he told me some people can kneel and some will never be able to. He said let your body tell you what you can and cannot do. But it is OK to kneel if you feel comfortable doing it. I will probably only ever kneel if I have something soft to use under my knees and a good reason to get down on them. The arthritis before the surgery prevented kneels for several years. It was too painful. My doctor also does not use the machines to move your knees. He also prefers you to go directly home and not to rehab " if " of course, you have help at home and are able to do so. He also thinks it encourages a patient to work the knees faster themselves. He tells your family and friends it is nice to wait on someone who just had the surgery, but it even better to say rather then I will get your that glass of water.......I will help you walk into the kitchen to get a glass of water. Each doctor is different. Congrats on your 2 yr. Anniversary. My next appointment for a recheck is coming up next month. My surgeon says I am to avoid kneeling if I can at all help it, unless I have really thick, cushy pads to kneel on. The reason being, the kneecap area is the weakest part, and kneeling puts a lot of stress on the joints. I wonder if surgeons have different opinions about kneeling vs. not-kneeling on new knees. I know my surgeon is adamently against the use of CPMs as he'd rather his patients do the work themselves as opposed to a machine doing if for him/her. Left TKR 7/16/09.
