Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I wanted to share a letter from a Mom in my P2ParentsChat group. She is very enthusiastic and wants to put a book together for parents as a support for the lighter side of autism and to raise money for our kids therapies. She has a nice story about her family and contact info for her book if you want to contribute a piece to her book. (See her letter below). Hope you are having a great day. My Best, n Good day everyone! We are new to your group and would like to introduce ourselves. I am , my husband is Nick, we have three sons, Tom age 23 yrs, age 7 yrs (ADHD, ODD, Encopresis), & age 5 yrs, (Deletion 18q- Syndrome & Autism), www.davidversusautism.org. We live in northern NJ. has been subject to his issues since the age of two, also. We use the Son Rise Program to help reach his highest potentials, along with diet, Consegrity, Chiropractic, Cranio Sacral, and Growth Hormone to maintain his myelin, Kefir program, and lots of love. We help in the same ways minus the Growth Hormone. We are always seeking new information on how to help our children. I am also a big advocate of fund raising to help us help our children. 's issues are finally diminishing except for hyperactivity, which seems to be taking longer to go away. has gone from a little boy that would sit and stimm during his waking hours with no indication of awareness that we existed. At one point we thought he was deaf, but he wasn't/isn't. That was 2 1/2 years ago. is now a social, loving, extremely intelligent little boy, who gives us eye contact 99% of the time in his special playroom and 85% out. He is pointing at things for us to name them, attempting to regain his speech which he lost when Autism set in, and stimms maybe 2% of his day. He has begun to trace his letters all on his own, is seeking out attention and playmates, and is in our opinion, going to be fine. Through our journeys with our boys we have had the opportunity to learn so much through research and other parents, that we decided to run monthly meetings at our local library to raise awareness of the Son Rise Program and the techniques we use and have learned of. This has been an amazing journey. We, (another mom & I), are planning an Awareness Day in our town for this fall to raise funds for our child and a friends. The day will also include a walk a thon. We will have tables representing special needs by category, that will offer information to others. We are extremely grateful for the opportunities we are given to help not only our children but all. I have recently come up with an idea I have offered to my friends with special needs children. We are putting a book together that for what I know is the first of it's kind. This book will represent the happiness of our children's issues. It will contain, (all original) short stories, anecdotes, poems, songs, pictures drawn by our special needs children and those drawn by their siblings or anyone, and anything else we can come up with. The point of the book will be to bring a smile to those that can't seem to find one, to ease our otherwise hectic days, and to make us laugh. The contributors will be parents, family members, therapist, volunteers, etc., that have had or have a special needs child in their lives. This will also become a series as stories are updated and new material submitted. We want to keep it inexpensive. A paperback, no photographs inside the book, a collage of photos of the children whose stories are submitted as the cover. All proceeds will be divided equally amongst those that participate. I think idea will not only help us help our children, but also raise awareness to others not aware that Special Needs Children are not tragedies, but blessings that bring us joy in ways we otherwise might take for granted. That first look we receive, that first word we waited so long to hear, that hug that seemed bound never to become a reality, that smile with eye contact, and most of all the feelings all of these and more bring to us. This is not about buying a book, but about contributing to one we would like to get published. Anyone contributing an item to add to the book would be entitled to their share of the proceeds which would be distributed evenly to all that contributed. Anyone interested in joining us in this, may contact me via help@.... I believe we can all help each other so if you have questions regarding the methods we use to help our children, please feel free to ask. Warmest Regards, Sierchio age 7 yrs, ADHD/ODD/Extended Bowel Syndrome age 5 yrs, Deletion 18q- Syndrome/Autism www.davidversusautism.org
