Guest guest
Kazbat, I also have a BAHA on my right side ( implanted after a failed reconstruction attempt). we have another member here who wears them on both sides. I think they were more readily available to Europeans, as the FDA just recently ok'ed them for SSD. Checked out your pix.....my the English surgeons certainly like to shave that hair! They only shaved a little of mine. My drawback now is that I just moved to a new area and have to find a hairdresser who won't freak at the metal pin in my head! Guest guest
Hiya :-) I lost around a quarter of my hair to the nurse with the razor at the time of my BAHA surgery but in a controlled manner. Rather that, though, than give in to the surgeon as I had to when I had the cholesteatoma removed haha - never again! At least I had a say in the 'style' and we left the top layer of hair to lay over the shaved area. It wasn't toooooooooo bad, I guess ;-))))))) I was at the hairdressers on Saturday. The hairdressers at the salon I go to are wonderful - we all get chatting and laughing and inevitably the conversation gets around to deafness, what I can and can't hear, what it's like to wear a BAHA - it's only a small salon, so there are usually only one or two other clients there, so we all chat together. I was surprised one time - I was showing one of their clients my BAHA and her daughter who was around 14 remarked that her science technician had one. Small world, eh? One of the hairdressers brings her teenage son to work as he sweeps up, washes hair and makes the coffee/tea, etc. He has asked what it's like to be deaf - putting his fingers in his ears and trying to 'hear' what I can 'hear'. It's great to invoke such interest in the salon - we play 'I spy' but change it to 'I hear' so to make us all aware of how much hearing can be taken for granted. And on top of that, we have a good laugh, which is a good thing. Kazzy xx Kazbat...good to see another BAHA person here Kazbat, I also have a BAHA on my right side ( implanted after a failed reconstruction attempt). we have another member here who wears them on both sides.
