Guest guest
Hi If you mean the doctor wants to put a titanium prosthesis in the ear in place of some or all of the three little bones that are normally found in the middle ear, then this would be what is called "reconstructive" surgery - normally carried out when the doctor is sure there is no re-growth of the cholesteatoma. Better hearing is usually a result of this surgery but not necessarily an immediate one. However, if you mean a titanium implant into the skull, this would be part of the Bone Anchored Hearing Aid system, commonly used by those who have suffered from cholesteatoma or discharging ears as, if they have a hearing loss, this would normally be conductive and BAHA is a great hearing aid for those who can't wear the more normal air conducting hearing aids in their ears. Kazzy :-) Second surgery questions My son is healing from his first surgery. He still is unable to hear out of the right ear. So his doctor wants to go in and put a titanium implant in. Will that bring the hearing back and is there any side effects? Please Help!
