Guest guest
My daughter had her 1st surgery when she was 3 1/2 years old. At that time she had a Ctoma in her left ear. Her bones in her ear were gone and her inner ear and mastoid were full of a large ctoma mass. They went in behind her ear when they cleaned it and put in her prosthetic at the same time. She has had periodic check-ups and all looked good, until this last January. I was giving her a bath and I could smell her ear. So back to the Doc. Then back to her ENT and she had a exploratory surgery through her ear drum this last Monday. It was back. This time it was not a large mass, the Dr said that it was delicate and a thin layer. In which he thought was odd and that it looked to be a different this time. He said that he thought it had been there quite awhile because of the additional damage done. He cleaned it out again, he found the bone that the prosthetics had been connected to was gone and there was hole in the attic of her ear. He removed the prosthetics and sent us home. We have follow-up appt. next week at which time we will discuss the options. He said he could cover the hole in the attic up or what he recommends doing is making the ear canal larger and what I believe he said was making the Mastoid part of the inner ear. I was kinda blown away about that time so that may not be exactly right. And if she does have this what complication will ther be because of the procedure? We live in North Dakota, its kinda hard to tell if one should get another opinion in Minneapolis or not. Our Doctor in Fargo seems very much up on things, but how is one to know if he is good at what he does or not? I have to say that nobody I know had any idea what a ctoma was before this started, any insite would be appreciated. Brett
