My 10 year old son had a mastoidectomy in November and his hearing is

bad still. His bones were reconstructed as they were eaten away and

they are still not working together. Also he gets ear pain a lot and

his ear gets red and warm. It really bothers him. The doctor says he

may need to have a prosthesis piece of bone in when he has a second

surgery this summer. I am at wits end with his ear and the pain and

hearing. Has anyone else experienced this kind of reaction?

my son's ear would turn red and warm off and on for about 6 months after his

cwd. The doc never seemed to concerned w/ it and it did quit doing that. My

son also had the bones removed and now has a hearing aid because he lost

about 70% of his hearing. The doc doesn't want to reconstruct until he feels

we are in maintenance, he told me a few years. I know that sometimes the

prosthesis don't work quite right, especially in kids because as they grow

the prostesis can shift. There is also a possiblity of rejection. Some folks

reject the prostectic bones and have to go a different route. Good luck,

it's a long road.
