Guest guest
Hi folks, ANA = Antinuclear Antibody test. See: http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/ana/test.html The American Association for Clinical Chemistry provides this information to the public. You may find the site helpful in the future. I was guided to this resource from another fantastic site called Medline Plus (produced by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes for Health): http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/medlineplus.html I have no earthly idea about a link ... medical information yes ... medical diagnoses or interpretation of said information ... no. I know my limits. Guest guest
My son had congenital Ctoma removed 2 years ago and developed a skin rash/dermatitis after his titanium implant surgery. He has had several blood tests, urine, stool and allergy testing, among them ANA (Antinuclear Antibody) and C-Reactive Protein and he was NEGATIVE. Of the 10 doctors we have seen, no one has ever related Cholesteatoma and autoimmune problems. - have you found a correlation? Of the research I have done on immune problems I have never found a connection. n's doctor thinks that the use of the antibiotics during his surgery caused an imbalance in the good bacteria/flora in his stomach/intestines causing a Dysbiosis (overgrowth of bacteria, yeast, parasites). That in turn caused food sensitivities causing the dermatitis/skin sores which then resulted in staph infections, immune problems and more antibiotics. He has been taking 19 pills a day of probiotics, nutrition supplements and nystatin which have helped his body immensely, but he still has the rash but not as severe. I have found that diet & nutrition are so important in healing the body if you are going through surgery. Vitamins and probiotics may be helpful as the body is working overtime & fighting hard to stay healthy after the drugs and trauma of the surgery!!! - Hope your surgery went well today!!!! Guest guest
Judy, My son is having his third surgery in 10 days and I was wondering what vitamins and probotics you have found to help. I am not sure what a probotic is. Re: Cholesteatoma and ANA positive My son had congenital Ctoma removed 2 years ago and developed a skin rash/dermatitis after his titanium implant surgery. Guest guest
Judy, No, I have not found any correlation. My son's allergist, the doctor who initially diagnosed his cholesteatoma, is also an immunologist. He was speculating, but I haven't been able to find any support. I hope I didn't alarm anyone. Thanks, everyone. > > My son had congenital Ctoma removed 2 years ago and developed a skin > rash/dermatitis after his titanium implant surgery. Guest guest
Hi - Through talking to various doctors and nurses, they have said during surgery, especially in the head near the brain, they give you high powered antibiotics to fight infection. The antibiotics kill the good and bad bacteria in your system. The probiotics replace the good bacteria so you have a balance and the bad bacteria/yeast doesn't overgrow. Also when you have surgery, certain cells help repair your body so it would be important to have good nutrients to promote healthy cell function. Please talk to your doctor and get recommendations about supplements. Somethings you may not want to take as they could thin the blood or have other effects on your surgery. n's surgeon did recommend additional Vitamin C, so he wouldn't get sick after surgery. There are vitamin C drops that we gave him. My son had an extensive blood test (done by a holistic medical doctor who was a pediatrician) that measured all the nutrients in his body since he had health issues after his surgery. He is taking a multivitamin and other supplements from Thorne Research that was recommended by the doctor . You could go to a vitamin shop (such as Great Earth) and consult with someone their as I have found them to be very knowledgeable. All supplements are not created equal! There are many suppliers out there and they would be able to best advise you on the reputable companies and purity of the ingredients. I have gone to health food stores (Whole Foods/ Earth Fare) and talked with people there also and used " Animal Parade " products. They have a probiotic that is chewable for children (needs refrigeration). Fish oil (Omega 3 Fatty Acid) is another recommendation I hear often that the doctor recommended to promote healthy cells and skin. Nordic Naturals is a good company and they have a children's chewable. A simple book you could read for more information would be: Vitamin Primer by Dr. Arthur M. Presser who is a pharmacists. You may also look these products up on the Internet. As with anything, you will get different opinions on the value of this. I only know what has helped my son. It has _surprised_ me how much better he is feeling and how happy he is now that his body is getting the nutrients it needs. PLEASE TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR or other expert in the field. Best wishes and health to your children!!
