Guest guest
my daughter also experienced a " bleeding ear " in the run up to her mastoid surgery. she had already had numerous bouts of otitis media, acute and chronic. this one time the infection was partcularly severe and resulted in rupture of the ear drum along with this bloody discharge. whilst it is not " normal " it is not apparently uncommon. she has just started getting it again. bare in mind that the lining of the middle ear is similar tissue to that which lines the lungs etc. if an infection is present, the lining can become inflamed and some bloody discharge is quite probable. hope this helps julie
Guest guest
yes..i agree with michelle, my main concern was that you say your doc hasnt heard of this before?? my brother has ctoma too, he has also had some bleeding over the years, which was generally put down to infection. it has been intermittent and infrequent. both my brother and daughter have an " open cavity " wall down surgery, perhaps that makes a difference. the one good thing i noticed is that you say that this is all happening pre-surgery...what better timing. it means that is ther eis anything going on a good look round inside is scheduled. hope it goes ok...and make sure you get the best doc you can. thinking of you julie
Guest guest
Dear Fay, I don't really have an answer for you on the bleeding but what really concerns me is the fact that you don't think your doctor has seen this before. C-toma is nothing to fool around with and you should see an ENT that has done several of these surgeries. If your doctor has not seen anything like this, when he does surgery (if he is the one doing it) how will he know what he is looking for? There are some very sensitive nerves there, like the facial nerve. You don't want that to be cut because it would cause paralysis on that side of the face. Make sure whoever operates on your son has the experience to do so. Also, I hope I understood your email right, I'm on some new meds and they confuse me a little. Good Luck, Michele "Shapiro, Fay" <Fay.Shapiro@...> wrote: My just 11 year old son was just diagnosed. We are awaiting approval for a2nd opinion. What concerns me is that the neuro-otologist we've been seeingsays he has never seen (and maybe heard of) a bleeding ear. That was myson's symptom and it continues intermittently. Has anyone had/heard of ableeding ear with this diagnosis? This is all pre-surgery - scheduled forlater this month.
Guest guest
My son has also just been diagnosed. A bleeding ear was his main symptom, along with a very smelly discharge. Although it is not always present, it is not unusual. > My just 11 year old son was just diagnosed. We are awaiting approval for a > 2nd opinion.
