Guest guest
It's been awhile since I have posted, also, but I'm always reading and keeping up with everyone. I know exactly how you feel. My 17 year old son had his 3rd surgery at the end of May to repair the eardrum and do reconstruction (again) this time by an otologist. Everything was going beautifully until about 4 weeks (we could all tell his hearing had improved) after surgery he yawned and felt his new eardrum pop. There is a hole in a very strategic place and the hearing has since deminished and the Dr wants to do another surgery ASAP. Needless to say a senior in high school who is filling out college apps, visiting colleges and who thought he had this behind him is very upset about taking more time away from school and his activities. I'm very upset also as it seems as this will never end the dr has said that he will have to go in behind the ear again. I wish we could make it better for them. Guest guest
Hi, My son has had 3 surgeries, not quite so close together as you are describing. His last surgery was Oct 4, and he will be having another sometime in May. The ctoma has already almost filled his ear since Oct. He has never had any drainage. I have heard from one surgeon that in children the ctomas can really grow back very, very fast... "roaring back like a train" was the phase she used. My son's second surgery was no harder, recovery-wise, than the first. Maybe a little easier because we knew what to expect. The 3rd was the easiest of all for a number of reasons, one was that they used some kind of glue, instead of sutures, which seemed to heal much faster for him plus we didn't have the problem of suture material working its way out of his skin for a month or 2 after the surgery. We have not had the specific problem of the ctoma being especially close to the facial nerve. Good luck, Marie
Guest guest
Hi iam new to this group and don't know if i did this right the first time. My 3 year old daughter had a very larg c-toma removed June 20th. We were told that she would have to have a 2nd look as her middle ear bone is gone and her ear drum has a massive hole in it. This was all a suprise to us as Katy has only ever had 1 ear infection her whole life. She failed her hearing screening and they told us it was due to fluid in the ears but when they went to do tubes they found the c-toma. Its cogenital. I guess I just want to know what to expect from the 2nd surgery. Also she went in for her post op and the Dr wants her back at the end of July when he originally told us not for 3 months. Why would he want her back so soon? Thanks Steph
