Hi Everyone,

Well my healing has gone well and I'm at that itchy scar stage which

makes you wish it was numb again. At three weeks the surgeon cleaned

out my ear and the eardrum was attached (yippie) but very inflamed so he

put me on antibiotic drops again which I'm done with. Actually, most

of my discomfort after the operation was from TMJ and not my ear. I do

have a few questions that perhaps someone can help me with.

1. Has anyone figured out a safe way to take a shower and wash their

hair without getting water in their ear? I'm allergic to petroleum

products so I can't use the vaseline on the cotton and the doc doesn't

want me to use ear plugs. I've been very careful and use the hand held

shower head but yesterday I got an emergency phone call while washing my

hair and did get some water in my ear during the excitement. It seems

to have come out during the night, but of course I'm concerned. What is

one to do if water gets in the ear?

2. Occasionally my head hurts on the side of the operation. It doesn't

feel like any headache I've ever had, more like pressure and usually

doesn't last a long time, about 15-20 min. Also sometimes I get a

sudden stabbing pain that really makes me need to sit down that only

lasts a minute or so. Anyone have any similar symptoms and how long did

they continue?

3. It still feels like the ear is clogged or needs to pop like when you

are at high altitudes. When does this usually clear?

I've placed a call to the doctor, but from what I've seen all of you

have so much more first hand info that is quite helpful.

Best to all!
