Guest guest
Angel, I can't answer the question about your ear still bleeding. I just don't know enough about it. The fatality risk of ctomas is that they can "eat" through the bones that protect the base of your skull and can cause an infection in the brain, which can be fatal. This is extreamly rare from what I have read. Those ear drops are great (they are like liquid gold at our house) and should help some with the infection itself. Sounds like another surgury is in your near future. (my husbands 2nd surgury will be coming up in about 6 weeks) Keep your chin up and know you are not alone. Technology has moved leaps and bounds in the past 10-15 years, and it sounds like your doc & specialist are taking appropriate action. Good Luck! in Nebraska From: Angel <dixifairy_2002@...>Subject: I once again have itcholesteatoma Date: Thursday, September 25, 2008, 12:51 PM I knew I had it when i was younger about age 5. I surgery then for itand had one of the bones replaced. I had it again at about 8 or 9. Itwas much more simple then. I think they just went in from the outerear and removed it. It's been a while so i'm not exactly sure of allthe specifics. I woke up this morning to a bleeding ear. I've had mysuspicions for the past two years that i once again had it because ofhearing loss. About two years ago i did see a specialist and hadhearing tests done and was told that i did have some hearing loss.they sent me then for a ct which i never heard anything about becausei lost my state insurance soon after. the copies of the dt scan arestill in my closet. so this morning i went straight to the walk inclinic with my 2 year old twins in tow. I wasn't exactly thing that itwas the c-toma that was causing this but i knew it wasn't good. veryquickly i was told thats what i had. The dr said i needed to see aspecialist a.s.a.p and that i would probably have to have surgery andthat is it wasn't taken care of there was a possibility i could diefrom this type of infection. I had never heard that before. From therei was sent straight to the specialist. Ear still bleeding and my twinsstill tagging along i finally decided this would be a good time tocall my husband for some back up. The dr there put me under the scopeand began to clean my ear out. the suction made me more dizzy than ithink i've even been in my life. worse than that feeling you get aftera night of drinking while trying to go to sleep. he told me thatwasn't a good sign. he removed a bunch of pieces he said of it andtouched on one area that hurt very badly. he gave me some ear drops touse for the next week to try to clear some things out and then i goback for a fallow up and he said i would from there probably haveanother ct to see how bad it was. he said he could see part of it butit might only be the tip of the iceberg. i'm very worried to thinkthat this stuff could have been forming for the past 14 or 15 years. icould be pretty serious if it was in fact growing for that amount oftime am i correct? any type of feed back would be appreciated at thispoint since i am completely at a loss about everything. i don't evenknow what to think any more. and to top it all off my ear is stillbleeding. is that a bad thing? Guest guest
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE FEED BACK. I HADN'T REALIZED BUT YOU ARE EXACTLY RIGHT ABOUT THE FACT THAT TECHNOLOGY HAS IMPROVED VASTLY SINCE THE LAST TIME I WAS SEEN FOR THIS! THANK YOU AGAIN.~ANGEL From: Angel <dixifairy_2002>Subject: I once again have itcholesteatomaDate: Thursday, September 25, 2008, 12:51 PM I knew I had it when i was younger about age 5. Guest guest
Angel, I had a similar experience, though my doctor is still unsure if it was a cholestieatoma. I have been fine for several years since. I had some bleeding from my ear, great pain, hearing loss, and finally the eardrum ruptured. (my bleeding and pain stopped when the eardrum ruptured.) I was given high doses of cipro orally, plus cipro drops and other drops several times a day. During that time and before, I had severe vertigo, brought on by my lying on the other ear (so the world was spinning for the full 15 min I needed to lie on my side after using the drops 4 times a day). However, I did the drops and pills religiously and by the end of 6 weeks the doctor was amazed at how good everything looked. My hearing was back to normal. And the vertigo has ended (almost) completely. I hope all works out for you. Let us know how you are doing. > > > From: Angel <dixifairy_2002> > Subject: I once again have it > cholesteatoma > Date: Thursday, September 25, 2008, 12:51 PM > I knew I had it when i was younger about age 5.
