indent from mastoidectomy

Hi Everyone

I just want to mention, that I was feeling behind my ear last nite... and lo and behold, I felt the "indent" that several of you have talked about (those who have has a CWD Mastoidectomy). It runs along the crease of my ear, where my "auricle" starts, from near the top of my ear almost to my earlobe. I can feel a ridge/depression there, that isn't on my left ear. So I guess that is where my mastoid bone is missing... Hmmm, I couldn't feel it before and figured there was no missing bone in my head. I guess maybe there was swelling there before. But now I understand what you all were talking about. That whole area is still tender if pressure is applied there, and it has been over 3 months.

Hi Lynn,

Two years after surgery that area is tender for Larry. I don't know if it is tender meaning sensitive to pain, or tender meaning he just doesn't want anyone to touch it. He doesn't like anyone doing anything around his hear, except for his two doctors. I've only touched it a couple of times.

Yes Lynn, there is an indention behind my ear too! And it is really

prominent because I have had it done 3 times! Also, if I press inside

the top of my ear lobe (<- it feels so squishy, like I have a water

baloon in there. Take care ,Charla.

Hi Lynn,

Hey I also have the indent...it took a while before I could feel it

but it is there. Mine is VERY tender and sometimes almost sore. I

wonder if is still healing or will just take a while to heal

completly. My family Dr said that it looked like a stitch still in

there, so maybe that is why it feels soo weird. He was afraid to mess

with it so I guess it is still there...LOL Kinda hard to see..!!!

Have a great Day!!!

Hi Michele,

Yes it is tender in terms of discomfort if any pressure is applied there... it is amazing that I am still learning new things about this everyday. Finding that there is a "dent" behind my hear, was surprising for me, cause it took me so long to find it there.

Hi Lorie,

It is great to hear from you. It was pretty strange finding that behind my

ear after vehemently denying that I had a dent there... LOL Anyway, how is

the rest of the recovery going? And do you still have all those kittens?

Talk soon.
