Guest guest
AUTISM ONE RADIO UPCOMING SPECIALS (details below)• and Dr. Mark Geier • Dr. WakefieldAutism One Radio launched! We had a few glitches, but the hosts have done a remarkable job. Their collective knowledge, passion, and dedication to help parents and children with autism is without peer. Broadcasts originate from homes, offices, or wherever the host happens to be. Each host acts as their own producer, director, sound technician, software engineer, writer, and host. It is a daunting task by any stretch of the imagination. I have worked in business, government, and academia, but never have I worked with the caliber of people found in the autism community. Each host signed on without a moment’s hesitation. In spite of a frightening learning curve, potential technical difficulties and a hundred other reasons to decline each host felt the possible obstacles were of little concern. The most important issue was getting good information to you. Please feel free to contact hosts with your questions. We are moving ahead on a number of fronts. In the next few days we will increase our bandwidth for a better sound. We are in the planning stages to provide our first remote coverage of an event and over the next several months we will be rolling out call-in capability for a number of shows. AUTISM ONE 2005 CONFERENCE Autism One 2005 will be held May 26 - 29, at the Chicago O’;Hare Marriott hotel. We have made several changes to better serve the needs of our community. Pre-Conference day: Culinary DelightThe Pre-Conference day, Thursday, May 26 will be devoted exclusively to all things food. You’ve been told the gluten- casein-free and specific carbohydrate diets help many children with autism. Remove gluten and casein from my child’s diet? Are you nuts? That’s all my child eats. He’ll starve! Putting these diets into practice can seem overwhelming. Far from starving the results are often nothing short of miraculous. Chronic constipation or diarrhea clear up, self-injurious behaviors, aggression, and spinning are reduced dramatically, often eliminated. Social skills from language to eye contact to conceptual capabilities suddenly blossom. Preparing these diets does not have to be hard. In fact, it can be as simple and easy as preparing regular meals. The difficulties are often in knowing which foods are permitted, where to begin and what to expect. There is no substitute for hands-on training. You will watch, learn, and help prepare meals which tickle the taste buds, heal the body, and rejuvenate the spirit while providing the best nutrition for your child and your family. You will learn about • Preparing, cooking, and baking nutritious and delicious GFCF and SCD meals• Nutrients in food• Where to shop• Choosing the best foods• Reading food labels• Good brands• Proper cookware• Juicers• Questions to ask companies and grocers • Avoiding gotchas• Time-saving tips, tricks, and secrets Good food is the best medicine. The hands-on GFCF and SCD Culinary Delight day is a day of nutritious family cooking; a feast for the senses. Bon Appétit.Main ConferenceThis year’s conference is comprehensive and introduces focused mini-tracks. As always there will be over 100 leading authorities presenting in four major tracks. A number of promising treatments based on the latest research are being used with very good results. We believe this year, in many ways, will be a turning point for our community. We are beginning to gain traction along a number of fault lines as innovative researchers and doctors develop meaningful theories and modalities.Among the experts presenting will be Dr. Temple Grandin, Dr. Jill , Dr. Mady Horning, Dr. Deth, Dr. Boyd Haley, and Dr. Wakefield. A complete list will be posted on our web site within the next few days. The four major tracks are: 1. Biomedical Treatments2. Behavior, Education, and Communication Therapies3. Complementary and Alternative Medicine4. Government, Legal, Advocacy, and Personal Issues.Over the last several years we have learned there needs to be greater emphasis placed on a number of important topics. We are calling these focused subject areas mini-tracks. The mini-tracks will specifically address in greater depth:• Puberty, Adolescence, and Adulthood • Families New to the Diagnosis • Environmental Medicine/Issues • Stem Cell Research We will be sharing more news about the radio station and conference in the coming weeks. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or ideas. Thank you. My Best, Edmund Arranga 714.680.0792 http://AutismOne.org earranga@...
