Guest guest
Thanks doc! I always wondered about that before my first surgery. The heartbeat used to keep me awake. I was just glad that it went away after the surgery. Guest guest
, I had some of the same symptoms. My ear always had pressure, but the pain was never too bad. I had discomfort for many years that would be temporarily relieved by antibiotics. Then my hearing dropped off in the ear. After two more weeks with yet another antibiotic, my primary care physician sent me to an ENT that she went to med school with. That lady finally diagnosed me correctly after what was at least 14 years of bad diagnoses. It's important to note that cholesteatomas can grow in different ways and the damage that they cause can be somewhat different. This will result in symptoms that vary from patient to patient. I think and truly hope that you'll quickly feel better after your January surgery, so hang in there as best you can. Hopefully they'll be able to do something for your hearing, but your doctor's primary goal will be to establish a clean and dry ear. That should hurt a lot less. Try to do some things that help you to take your mind off of your ear for now. May it be an early January surgery! All the best, Matt sandra_david1 wrote: > > i was dignosed in 2004 with a cholesteatoma i my right ear i seen it > it looked like a little greenish pea the only symptoms i had was some > hearing lose and noise in my ear he said he didn't think i would need > any surgery at that point to come back for a check up in 6 months > which i accully forgot due to my grandmother dieing with cancer. > this past aug 2008 i started have trouble with my ear severe pain in > the side of my head down my neck i had several test by my > autolerinoligest so he check my ear and he seen something tryed to cut > out a piece but it was to painfull so he sent me to the main ent in > the office the tumor in my middle ear is black now and hes not sure > how big it is cause he said it was in a pocket and hidden the ct only > showed it to be small but according to him (the ent) i have severe > hearing lose and im in really severe pain my ear burns really bad and > i have a really bad pressure in my ear and my head it even goes up in > my temple they have me on nuroten and hydrcoden and i have to put ice > on it to relive the pain i cant stand to bend over cause the noise in > my ear and pressure hurts so bad it sounds like my heart beats in my > ear. so to someone who has had a cholesteatoma do you have any of > these symptoms or is this something different please help i am > supposed to have surgery in january thanks so much. > > --

Guest guest
I have heard of Dr. Wetmore. His training and background are very similar to Dr. Hirsch at the University of Pittsburgh, so I think you're in good hands. Honestly, my surgery didn't involve much pain. It's different for everyone, but many of us don't have a lot of pain. Most of my pain came from the stupid bandage that they put on your ear for the first day (you get to cut it off on day two). They always manage to pinch my outer ear with the bandage! By day two I wasn't even using Tylenol. My bigger problem was with nausea, but that's because I was an idiot and let myself get dehydrated. Once I started drinking more fluids I was fine. I have no clue what color mine were - I had no interest in keeping them in a jar or anything like that!. They could have been sky blue pink as long as the doc got them the heck out of there! I just know they did a lot of damage to my hearing. Thankfully a lot of that has been restored and with hearing aids I often hear more than I want to! Guest guest
interesting - i didn't know that it could change colors - i thought all cholesteatomas are white (but not positively sure on that) - you will feel much better after your surgery - my first surgery was not painful so hopefully yours will be better than you expect.
