Guest guest
Hi - My son, n who is now 8, had also developed immune problems after his titanium implant surgery in Nov. 2006. For the past 2 years we have seen 12 doctors regarding the dermatitis, allergies, overgrowth of bacteria & yeast, failure to absorb nutrients and immune problems he developed after his surgery. We questioned if he had a titanium allergy as I had posted before. Last week we took him to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and consulted with 4 doctors (allergist, ENT, dermatologist, and a GI doctor) and he had more blood, urine and stool tests. They think that he has atopic dermatitis. They were not sure if it was triggered by surgery as he did NOT have this before or any of the other problems. The ENT doctor suggested that he was over treated with medications - 6 - 7 antibiotics in a few months, oral steroids & 3 steroid creams that he was allergic to for over a year, and Benadryl which caused side effects and the other conditions of the overgrowth of bacteria & yeast causing poor absorption of nutrients in stomach, diarrhea, upset stomach, not feeling well, immune problems, and not being able to fight off infections. One doctor felt that he could have a sensitivity to wheat, dairy and eggs and one said it was not a reliable test. - If Katy was on several antibiotics for the infection she may have an imbalance of good/ bad bacteria or yeast in her stomach. n was sick a lot when he was going through the antibiotic period and he was just not feeling well until we treated his stomach issues. He is now on nystatin, probiotics and nutritional supplements and is doing much better, although still breaks out in rash, but it is more controlled. - Would you consider taking Chloe to the Mayo Clinic - it is really state of the art medical treatment and we are so very glad we took n! I would recommend Dr. Driscolle - he was wonderful with n. Dr. Arun - Thank you for your help in the past! I haven't received the bill for care at the Mayo Clinic yet, but it has cost probably close to $100,000 for his surgeries and medical care for the past 3 years - thankfully we have excellent insurance! As Matt and others have said this could be a life long issue/ expense, as n's local doctor has told us he will probably always have medical concerns. Thankfully, they did not feel that his titanium implant was the cause of the problem so he will not have it removed. Have a peaceful healthy holiday everyone!
