Guest guest
Hi, Michele. Troy had a scar band. The doctor tried removing it in the office, but it didn't work out (too painful for Troy, even with numbing drops). He had to have it removed at an outpatient facility. It didn't take long and we were home within a hour or so. And, yes, I believe it is just scar tissue and not at all uncommon. Take care, Terri -----Original Message-----From: Michele [mailto:iambored97601@...]Sent: Wednesday, October 23, 2002 6:30 PMcholesteatoma Subject: Scar bandsHello Everyone,Has anyone had scar bands after c-toma removal? Larry has one in his left ear (cwd) that will be removed in the office in November and he had one in his right ear about a month after the first surgery on that ear but it disappeared on its own. Is scar band just another term for scar tissue?Michele
Guest guest
Hi Terri, Do you think Troy's age had anything to do with his tolerance to the pain? I know you have mentioned numbing drops before, but when Larrys doc said what he was going to do I assumed he would use a needle with lidocaine. I guess what I am saying is I hope Larry will be able to have this done in the office. He will flip, even for an hour long outpatient! Michele > Hi, Michele. > > Troy had a scar band. Guest guest
francesca has had a couple of " uncomfortable experiences " and maybe two painful experiences when having her ears cleaned. i have to say she has never been offered any drops for pain relief??? a nice idea....i shall enquire about. so far the main things we do during a cleaning are some deep relaxation breathing...which seems to work reasonably well for the most part....on other occasions i use distraction tactics....and if all else fails...we stop and then restart when she's ready. for the most part...she does really well. Guest guest
Hi, Michele. Troy's age may be related to his tolerance for pain, although he's a tough kid. I've always thought his tolerance was pretty high, especially when the doctor cleans out his ear, using that long " crochet " hook! Yikes! Larry may do just fine, depending on what they use to numb his ear. Troy had a very small cyst removed in the office last month and did fine with just the drops. Let me know how Larry does. Guest guest
After I wrote you I found myself wondering where they would stick the needle! Yes, those are some pretty wicked looking instruments they use. I found a site that is a syllabus for temporal bone studies and it list the instruments they check out to the students and they were all very familiar looking to me. Has Troy ever had a cleaning that you think is pushing his boundaries when it comes to pain tolerance? Michele > Hi, Michele. > > Larry may do just fine, depending on what they use to numb his ear. Guest guest
Oh, absolutely. Before his doctor starts, he makes sure Troy knows he can say " ouch " and if he does, he stops poking around! He tries to be gentle and Troy knows this (he really likes his doctor). It's hard for me to watch, though, so I usually hold his hand and try to distract him. > > From: " Michele " <iambored97601@...> > Date: 2002/10/24 Thu PM 04:12:56 EDT > cholesteatoma > Subject: Re: Scar bands > > After I wrote you I found myself wondering where they would stick the needle! Guest guest
Michele- I had a scar band that formed in my ear after my radical which is why they had to go back in this last May. My doctor said that they are pretty common because the body doesn't like big open spaces which a radical leaves you with. He used some new stuff to help limit the formation of scar tissue (which a scar band is). Apparently, this stuff has been widely used in abdominal surgeries and has just recently become available for the ears. I don't know the name of it, but so far it seems to be doing okay. As of the end of Septmeber, no scar band and no c-toma. However, I'm pregnant again and my c-toma has a tendency to grow more when I'm pregnant so we'll see. You might ask your husband's doctor about this new stuff. My doctor said it sort of looks like cellophane. Hope this helps. Best of luck!! - > Hello Everyone, > > Has anyone had scar bands after c-toma removal?
