I have two daughters that suffered from numerous colds and ear infections. One contracted meningitis as an infant and the other recently had her second surgery to remove her ctoma. Its a very long story but the good news is that when we changed our diet and eliminated wheat and dairy our families health dramatically improved. My oldest daughter, now 12, also suffered from severe mood swings that are virtually gone unless she has wheat. By the way no one in our family has been diagnosed with celiac. I would highly recommend trying an elimination diet of wheat, dairy and processed foods. The results may amaze you and your child's suffering may be relieved - I was a total skeptic initially but was willing to try anything instead of constantly giving my children drugs that only masked symptoms for a short period of time. Good luck!Cheryl Sent via BlackBerry by AT&TFrom: "MARILYN VAN HOUTEN RN MS CDMS CCM" Date: Tue, 30 Dec 2008 12:39:20 -0500c toma<cholesteatoma >Subject: Re: the "common" cold... Pam,Thanks for that quick response! I do believe in herbal and some homeopathic remedies. I have been using sugar free zinc lozenges. I have read that zinc can cause partial loss of smell. I haven't had that problem. Marilyn

Eliminating dairy has helped me tremendously too. Before I realized

that dairy (milk products) was a problem, I always had a cold and ear

infections, especially right after Christmas, because of all the

Christmas candies - mostly chocolate! Since I cut out dairy I've been

able to get through most of the year without a cold and haven't had an

ear infection in years. It's worth a try. I can't even handle

"non-dairy" creamer because it contains sodium caseinate, a milk

derivate. And no lactose free milk either. Milk allergies are different

than lactose intolerance. It does take a while to get out of your

system though, once you stop eating it. So give it some time. I agree

about the wheat too, although it doesn't affect me as much as the dairy

does.
