Okay... some may disagree, some may not... and I usually don't put my opinions

in on this kind of stuff just because, but my daughter (who had her ctoma

removed on Oct 27th) has had a bad go of it health wise every since then...

strep throat and scarlet fever and a really bad sinus infection and head cold...

this last head cold she had a really high fever, spiking up to 105 and they

pretty much told us, tylenol, motrin and lots of fluids... so I started her back

on her allergy medication and also started her on the zicam nasal swabs during

the duration of her infection/ cold and that helped a great deal. I have always

used them and am a firm believer in them... so I tried them on her and they

worked.

So I don't know if this pertains to your post or not, but if anyone is having

issues with lots of cold, etc... try them, keep consistent with them, every 4

hours... they have been beneficial for my and my family.

Pam,

Thanks for that quick response! I do believe in herbal and some homeopathic remedies. I have been using sugar free zinc lozenges. I have read that zinc can cause partial loss of smell. I haven't had that problem.

I do three things, but the first couple will probably make you laugh

since you're a nurse. I drink all the fluids that I can and get as much

rest as possible. Then the third thing I've been doing is to use

something called AYR. It's a moisturizing nasal gel that tends to open

up things a bit.

Pseudafed helps a little, but it makes my entire scalp go numb.

Having had my c-toma removed April 2007, CWD procedure, my doctor has since

perscribed Allegra-D (non drowsy) as I have a dysfunctional eustacian tube.

Along with Nasacort (nasal spray), my sinuses are clearer.

Hey Nate,

I have not checked this site in quite some time and saw your name pop up. Hope you are doing well. How is your hearing now that you are a good year and half post op?

Dearest Marilyn, Happy New Year to you too! Since my last surgery, I

have had issues with fluid build-up when I eat certain foods and it's

also been the first sign that I have some congestion coming on even

b4 my nose or sinuses feel it. My best advice is to kick the cold

right out as soon as you feel it coming on. I have been EXTREMELY

successful using Allibiotic CF made by NOW foods. I order it online

for less than $10 per 60ct bottle from www.bulknutrition.com. I have

experimented with it over the last.... maybe 2 years... and for ME, I

have found that taking 3 softgels, 3x daily will stip it in it's

tracks. If I take it immediately, my cold symptoms do not get

worse. I try to stick with it for a few days, even when I feel 100%,

just to be sure my body has what it needs to fight it off

completely. If I do not have any in my " medicine box " and the cold

persists for a few days, once I begin taking it at MY dose, it can

take up to 3 days to really feel the difference. Weight plays a part

in dosing, so for reference: I am 145lbs and I take it 3ct, 3x

daily, my 2 youngest children are 65 & 100 lbs and 2ct, 3x daily

works great for them. This is just what I've played around with and

found good for my family. Before I found Allibiotic CF, I used

Sambucol (a way too sweet black elderberry syrup - with other

ingredients) and it was also highly successful, but the Alli CF works

better and we don't have to choke down the sickening sweet Sambucol

syrup.

I would recommend trying the ACF and see how it works for you.

To keep my sinuses clear, I also use nose spray each morning during

the drying winter / cold season. I use an organic, non-addictive

liquid. If you would like to know more, shoot me an e-mail

ksboheem@...

Hope this is helpful to you. I know the dizzy stuff is not fun.

I've never gotten to use my inversion table! :( I was looking

forward to it due to my low back pain (short person and farmer... you

do the math!) Had to rethink my stretching methods to keep my head

up all the time.

Pam & Marilyn, upon reading this, I also thought I would relay that

with all the sickness my kids are subjected to at school, strep has

been a common problem and for the last 4 years, we have successfully

treated it with Kyolic Garlic capsules. When one of is gets it, we

all take the garlic. It works everytime and had been confirmed by Dr

visits on many occassions. When my kids could not swallow the

capsules, we opened them and mixed in honey to spoon feed. Garlic is

a natural antibiotic, so we use it for all infections. For the flu, I

always keep Oscillococcinum on hand and in my purse. It works EVERY

time. We are never sick like we use to be, even with 3 kids in

kindergarten-sixth grade. December - February use to be our really

bad times and it was not uncommom for my kids to have 3 good 3+ weeks

of missed school during those months. Not anymore! Just telling

what has worked for us. I still like my " Vitamin I " (Ibuprofen) to

help me feel comfortable when we first get something like strep.

Raw garlic is great too, for those who can tolerate it.
