Guest guest
Cris, When your eardrum tore had you already had surgery? I totally understand your plane fright. January 1, 2008 while flying on a plane to Nevada to ski I developed Bell's Palsy about 30 mins. to an 1 hour in the flight (super scary) - thought I may have had a stroke and didn't tell any of the flight attendances - 6 months later is when the cholesteatoma was discovered - I went to the doctor suffering with dizziness - doctor said that cholesteatoma caused the Bell's Palsy (pressure from plane + fluid in sinus cavity + cholesteatoma = pressure on facial nerve causing Bell's Palsy for me). I do not plan on flying for awhile but will consult with my doctor before I ever get on another plane. Wonder if ear plugs help protect our ears during flying? And, Ears to everyone . . . Haven't flown since 2 years (since c-toma diagnosis). Last time I took a plane, my ear drum tore.Did anyone have a bad experience with the operated ear in an airplane?Hope that all the doctor's work of reconstruction didn't serve for nothing after these flights!!Besides this question, happy new year to all,Cris

Guest guest
I always take pseudafed per the doctor's recommendation (one hour before landing). I don't do the nasal spray. I tried going without the pseudafed once, but that seemed to be a mistake. I had a little ear pain - nothing horrid, but definitely uncomfortable. cholesteatomato wrote: > > ... and am pretty much afraid. Haven't flown since 2 years (since c- > toma diagnosis). Guest guest
Thank you all for your comments. I actually did use nose spray before take offs and landings... and also worked on keeping the pressure in my ear with the vasalva (blowing in my pinched nose non stop during landing). What I did feel is more pain in the non c/toma ear than in the c- toma one, so am reassured that the doctor's work wasn't damaged... As to my good ear, still have pain today, 36 hours after landing. Usually lasts 1 week (my experience of flying before c-toma). To answer one of my c-toma fellow's question, my eardrum had torn during a flight (landing) before my diagnosis. Don't recall which ear though, because not the one and only time... I wish you all a very happy new year, Cris --- In cholesteatoma , "
