Guest guest
Hey everybody! I had a Canal Wall Down Surgery about 2 1/2 years ago. My hearing has been very tolerable except when I get a cold or sinus infection my hearing goes out for 1-2 weeks. Has anybody experienced this? I do not have any prosthetic. I have one of my original hearing bones. I assumed my problem was related to Eustachian Tubes. Let me know what you think.
Guest guest
it probably is your tubes if they were able to save your hearing bones without a prostetic. I had the same procedure almost 2 months ago and I have some hearing loss and ringing still. My tubes do block up and clear all the time. The doc said there is nothing to make that go away. (unless ou want tubes inserted) Good luck! Guest guest
I've had the same procedure, around the same time frame, as well as one good hearing bone, and suffer from a malfunctioning Eustachian tube, but do have a synthetic prothesis. Due to the consistent collapsing of my Eustachian tube, my doctor has me inflate my ears at least once a day. To do this I use an infant nasal aspirator, the tip of the aspirator is cone shaped. The bulb fits snuggly in your palm. The following procedure is exactly what is done when I have visited my doctor for checkups. To date I have no reoccurrence: 1) Hold a swig of water in your mouth, don't swallow yet. 2) Place the cone tip of the nasal aspirator in either nostril. 3) With the other hand press on the opposite nostril you have the aspirator inserted into. 4) At the same time swallow the water and squeeze the bulb, not too hard, just enough to blast air up in the nostril. If done correctly your ears should inflate. I've noticed a tremendous improvement in hearing and nasal breathing after doing this. I usually do this twice in the morning and once in the evening before I goto bed every day. You can goto to a CVS, Walgreens or any pharmacy to find one of these aspirators for less than $5. Here is a link to one similar to what I have, http://www.epinions.com/reviews/Gerber_Nasal_Aspirator_76087. Also do a search for "Nuby nasal aspirator". Hope this helps. -Nate From: odstegall <odstegall@...>cholesteatoma Sent: Friday, December 5, 2008 9:57:22 AMSubject: Hearing Question Hey everybody!I had a Canal Wall Down Surgery about 2 1/2 years ago. Guest guest
My son has Ctoma and gets strep or ear infection often. An Urgent care/ ER doctor told me that when you have infection in the body it will also often go to the area of an implant or surgical site if the body has infection. Once my son's ear/head was so swollen you couldn't touch it and he couldn't hear for 2 weeks, but it resolved with antibiotic. At the first sign of infection we take him in. Could this be why??? Good Luck! odstegall wrote: > > Hey everybody! > > I had a Canal Wall Down Surgery about 2 1/2 years ago. Guest guest
Yeah, I get this too. Just had one clear up finally the other day. It's fluid getting into my ear and causing blockage. Doc said he can put a tube in to help it drain faster, or just be patient and let it drain at the slow rate. So far I'm just being patient. Guest guest
Well, I am actually responding with info on colds and infections. If you feel a cold coming on... or anything " viral " ... I always take a triple dose of " Allibiotic CF " (made by Now Foods), 2 to 3 times a day until I feel better. Always knocks it out within a dose or two if I take it right away. If I didn't have any on hand, it's taken no more than 2 days (6 doses) to rid a full blown miserable cold. I am never without it in my " medicine box " anymore. If I know I have an infection of some sort, I use Kyolic Garlic, Formula 100. It's worked like a charm for every sort of infection my familiy has had over the past several years, even Strep! If I get post-nasal drip happening, I take the garlic just as a precautionary, so I don't get an infection. Had great results. Hope that helps some. > > Hey everybody! > > I had a Canal Wall Down Surgery about 2 1/2 years ago.
