Guest guest
Hi Caroline, Sorry you had to experience the hurrican! Having worked 7 yrs. Red cross Disaster services, I know first hand how really devestating these things are, emotionally and physically. Looks like it's going to be a bumpy hurrican season! Hopefully Florida won't have to suffer another one. My freezer is packed. I'd cry if I lost all that! Better than losing your entire home I guess. Stay healthy, lots of bad bugs pop up after hurricanes. Kathe

Now might be a good time to buy some extra insulation. put it in garbage bags and tape it all together to make an insulated jacket for the freezer. LEAVING VENTS FREE of course! Another idea would be to get some thick styrofoam. I left my freezer running over the winter while we were gone. It was full of stinky tripe (for the dogs). I prayed really hard that we wouldn't have any serious power outages, and we didn't. I put a sleeping bag and some blankets over the top and sides of the freezer, and they were quite cold when we returned. I also filled up the freezer to capacity, stuffing newspaper into any gaps. That's what you do with a cooler to keep things cool the longest, so I figured it was good insurance. Does anyone have any other tips? and the K9's
