Guest guest
hi all, I had my surgery on wednesday morning and came home late yesterday evening. The procedure was " Tympanoplasty with mastoidectomy revision " for possible cholesteatoma recurrence.. My surgeon reports that there was no cholesteatoma , but he found several epithilian cysts in the mastoid and those were removed. The mastoid area was badly infected and he had to remove several bones due to severe infection. The infection also spread into the inner ear, which he said caused my dizziness/vertigo I had since this summer. I used to have those " waves in my head " type feelings and he said that were probably caused by pressure that the infection asserted on the small bony plate which seperates the inner ear from the brain. I took off my head wrap last night. The ear is still dry and there is no drainage. The packing is supposed to leak out over a period of time. I also had no damage to my facial nerve. Matter of fact, I don't have any facial swelling like I had after my first c-toma surgery. Considering all, I feel pretty well..I take something for pain every 10 hours or , just to get rest. The stitches behind the ear will come out next Wednesday. I'm very happy with this surgeon. He saw me twice in the hospital before discharge and his nurse already called me at home twice to check on me , once last night and this morning. I thought that was pretty impressive.!! I just like to really encourage everyone who gets turned away from ENT's or doctors because they think that nothing is wrong, just to keep looking until you get the help you need. I have been having severe symptoms since July, milder before that , most doctors said I was suffering from anxiety. We all know if we listen, when there is something wrong with our bodies. So don't give up !! Elke
