Guest guest
My husband had his surgery just this past Monday (Jan 14th) it was called (for purposes of consent forms and stuff) " radical tympanomastiodectomy " the surgery took about 3 hours. His doc says no complications-- all of the things (and there were a lot) that could have happened didn't. He was actually able to do this with the canal wall intact, which we were both surprised at. No issues with the facial nerve during surgery. Today I take off his outside dressings, so we'll see. Normally our surgeon uses " skin glue " but since he needed more " tension " there are staples which will be removed at his check on the 29th. he was able to add some cartilage to his ossicles, and says once the healing gets going he will have about 40% in that ear. At his 6 month " second look " surgery he may be able to add a prosthesis, or do further repair. All in all -- everything looks really good. Of course its early. I appreciate having this forum to get information from and to share our experiences as well. I will continue to post updates as there is news to report. Thanks for all of your kind words and advice. Best wishes to all!
