Guest guest
Hi all! Well, you can imagine my suprise when I happened upon this support group for fellow cholesteatoma sufferers! As many have said in other threads, it's comforting to know there are other people out there who have/ are experiencing similar problems, & understand what others are feeling. I was first diagnosed with 'ear-blight', as I like to call it about three years ago (I'm 29 now). I'd just returned from a fifteen month trip to SE Asia & NZ, when my condition was diagnosed (by my excellent ENT surgeon), which made the return to soggy ol' England just that little bit more miserable! The condition was diagnosed in both ears, though my left ear was in a pretty advanced stage & necessitated a fairly hasty ( & expensive!), radical mastoidectomy. A few year down the line, my left ear is in fairly good shape (suffered about a 40% hearing loss), & I am awaiting surgery on my right ear, which is no where near as bad as the left one was, but still needs 'doing'. Have the occasional bout of dizziness & tinnitus, though thankfully hasn't stopped me riding my mountain bike. Unfortunately I have to put head first departures into muddy puddles down to poor bike handling & not a nasty disease with a long name!
