Guest guest
Jon, I take iron (Fe-tinic) and have been doing so for 4 months. I haven't had any weight gain that I attribute to the iron. I also don't have any constipation. After I had been on the iron for 3 months, I had it rechecked and my levels had not moved at all. That's when I went to twice a day pills. I'm having my iron rechecked next week and hope to see some improvement. As an FYI to you, a dietician told me that if you take iron with a vitamin C source (like orange juice), you will absorb it better. Good luck! Guest guest
this is obviously a question for the " iron maiden " (me) iron does cause constipation. so take citrucel regularly,,,,remember... if you are having the runs citrucel helps that, too! and i dont know if it officially makes you gain but since taking the iron therapy i have been RAVENOUS! anyone else having same problem? xoxoxo cs in VA > Dear Gang, > > At Dr. Rutledge's suggestion I recently started taking an iron > supplement in addition to my multi-vitamins. Guest guest
, (aka Iron Maiden) YES, YES, YES, Between the three one source vitamins, my two prescription iron supplements for my anemia, then my eight pills for mental health, my two pills for stool softener, (my B-12 shots monthly) I am constantly getting the " munchies " from the meds, just like when I was a kid smoking pot, why does that happen I wonder. Also, so many of us have come up with low Iron, I wonder what can do for newbies to avoid this issue??????????? Guest guest
Oh my goodness! I have been on extra iron since the picnic and I have also been so much hungrier. I didn't know the reason why - but that makws sense. I started out with 325 mg a day, levels still went down so now I am taking 650 mg a day. I have only lost 5 pounds since the picnic. You also do not want to take calcium at the same time as your iron. They compete for the same " receptors " and cancel each other out. I hope I have that right - LOL. The vitamin lady on the OSSG-graduate list posted that info. Guest guest
Get Solgar Gentle Iron. It won't cause constipation. Then you would get a multi vitamin without iron to go with it. aW Re: Iron Supplements and Weight Gain? this is obviously a question for the " iron maiden " (me) iron does cause constipation. so take citrucel regularly,,,,remember... if you are having the runs citrucel helps that, too! and i dont know if it officially makes you gain but since taking the iron therapy i have been RAVENOUS! anyone else having same problem? xoxoxo cs in VA > Dear Gang, > > At Dr. Rutledge's suggestion I recently started taking an iron > supplement in addition to my multi-vitamins. Guest guest
Dr R and my own Dr want me to take the one source with iron AND a (rather large) iron suppliment several times a day (no calcium with my vits.... taken with OJ add zinc also). if i take an iron suppliment and remove iron from my multi.... that will do nothing to help my anemia ---i need EXTRA iron. the constipation is not a problem as i take my citrucel religiously. be well cathy > > Dear Gang, > > > > At Dr. Rutledge's suggestion I recently started taking an iron > > supplement in addition to my multi-vitamins. Guest guest
I was thinking that same thing that why take a vitamin without iron and then an iron supplement?????????? what iron supplement do you take???????????? I want to get it once my prescription is expired, of course, I'll have my blood checked when the prescription expires to see if it has helped. I know when some folks become anemic, it turns out to be FOREVER!!!!!!! Re: Iron Supplements and Weight Gain?
