Guest guest
Remember last summer we had a discussion about a product called Milnot. Some of you talked about it and how you used it. I went to the site and looked up some recipes and thought it was something that I'd love to try. Guest guest
Flo- I am the one who started this with my potato soup recipe. I cannot believe that Milnot isn't available everywhere! I always keep 5 or 6 cans on the shelf and use it every week in something. I use it instead of milk in my whipped potatoes, in every casserole dish and for cream pies like pumpkin. The regular Milnot is not sweetened. It makes everything creamier. I also buy the store brands of Milnot. They are labeled " Filled Milk " and work just as good. You may want to look for these. They are on the same shelf as the evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. Let me know if you find these. This is sooo amazing. I learned about Milnot in home ec class 30 years ago and never knew it was an oddity for our area. Thanks for all the research you did! Guest guest
Margaret, What's the difference in Milnot and evaporated milk such as Carnation or Pet? I thought perhaps it was a soy product, but according to their website, it is a milk product with the cholesterol removed. Is the taste superior to evaporated milk? Guest guest
Judith There is a definite difference in taste. I don't know why. They call it " filled milk " on the store brand labels. Is evaporated milk also known as filled milk? My home ec teacher told us many moons ago to use it in place of milk or evaporated milk in recipes that you want to have a creamy taste. My family can tell if I have run out of Milnot and use milk in my whipped potatoes. They prefer the milnot. I guess I never thought about the " why " before now. <G> I will have to do some checking.
