Thanks for those words Genz --- but I have a question. Why exactly do

you hate the RNY? I am not asking because I am in any way unhappy with

my MGB but I am just curious. People are of course always asking for

comparisons, etc. and I don't know really anything about the RNY good or

bad....

Hi ,

My main complaints with the RNY revision are:

1) Weight regain, I lost 15 with my revision and have regained 20 and

it's been 5 months.

2) Severe intestinal cramping that will sometimes double me over.

3) Frequent and severe diarrhea to the extent of not being able to

leave home. I experienced it 3 days this last week.

4) Edema of the hands and feet.

5) Vomiting more often than with the MGB.

6) I now have an increased capacity for food. Greater than before my

revision, even though my stomach pouch is the size of an egg. I'm

certain the opening, or " anastomosis " or as some of us refer to it the

" stoma " , that goes into the " Y " portion of the intestines is too large

and it allows food to dump directly into the intestines and in effect

uses it as a stomach. I'm rarely full and I don't dump.

From what I have read in the MGB patient manual most of these

symptoms are typical of " Roux Stasis Syndrome " . I didn't have these

problems with the MGB but I sure have them with the RNY. This

also includes one bile reflux episode with the RNY.

I will be having another revision after the first of the year with

Dr.R. He will give me a more MGB like configuration and then I will be

able to get this weight off and hopefully eliminate the RNY problems.

The third time will be the charm.:-)

Love,

Genz

MGB 5-31-00, 249 lost to 172

RNY Revision 6-3-02, 185 lost to 170-172

Current weight 192 (that sucks, I'm going the wrong way!!)

Hi Connie,

It wasn't by choice. During my MGB revision the Nurse Anethetist that

was assisting Dr.R moved the tube that was in my pouch and didn't tell

Dr.R. This was while Dr.R was trimming my pouch and in the process my

pouch was made the size of an egg. Since my pouch was so small and so

high up Dr.R had to do a RNY connection. Bless his heart, he was still

able to keep my surgery a lap procedure although it took him 3.5 hours

and he hand stitched everything after it had been stapled. This man

kept his cool in a very adverse situation and took excellent care of

me. There is no doubt in my mind that if this had happened to another

surgeon, I would have been opened up. This is exactly why I chose Dr.R

to begin with.....with his trama surgery background I knew he would

work well under pressure if anything went wrong. Well he proved me

right and I'm so happy I have him as my surgeon.

Now as far as that nurse goes.......I don't hold him in very high

regard at all. But, it's my understanding that he's not allowed to

assist Dr.R any longer and that's a good thing. I think I was his

first and last and I bet he won't ever forget my surgery.LOL

<PRE>Dear , My heart goes out to you for all the hard times with this

weight,

up down etc. etc. I KNOW the weight has to go this third time at bat. You

are a brave soul. I am not going to have a revision, but I want to have an

eye brow lift and my neck done. So I'll be a little chubby but I'll have a

pretty youthful face ha ha. You already have a beautiful face. and I are

doing pretty good. Except for dairy sometimes, or I can't eat ice cream in

the evening. So I'll have some at lunch or breakfast, ha ha only kidding

about breakfast part. Keep posting please, I love to hear from you. God

Bless, J. MGB 6/1/00 258- 182lbs.

Gee Phyllis, that question makes it sound like I'm pregnant!!LOL

I only look pregnant!!

I don't know for sure when. I'm being scoped sometime this month,

endoscopy and colonoscopy. I had it scheduled November 6th but I had

to cancel because Randy will be in Chicago. After I'm scoped I have to

schedule some repair surgery with my Gyno. I want to get that taken

care of before I have the " third " . I'm thinking I'll schedule

my revision sometime in February. I hope I can handle the NC winter!!

At the rate I'm gaining weight I'll be back at my pre-op weight by

February, especially with the holidays coming up.LOL

Do you think Mickey will let you come up and play with and me??

Love,

Genz

I am concerned and scared when I read people are gaining wait back-Can anyone

tell me why so I won't do it too? I am already concerned because I am no losing

as fast as I thought I would. Surgery was 9-4-02 and I have only lost 32

pounds. I am terrified I spent all that money and it won't work for me.
