Kinda gross, but I am worried a bit.

In the last days before I went to doc to get my ear checked out and was diagnosed with ctoma, along with the general brown discharge there was some blood and what look like white stuff (puss?)...I know nasty but that's what it was.

My mind is kind of going crazy, I am hoping that white stuff wasn't from my brain or anything. Would the doc, have recognized during my visit if the ctoma had reached my brain? I probably would have symptoms if that happened I spose.

Other than discharge and lack of hearing there have been not symptoms...cept mabey some dizzyness...

Oh I had that too...mine also had a foul odor...like rotten seaweed or tuna or something...it made me gag everytime I turned my head toward the right because I would get a whiff of it...I guess because I had that for so long it never concerned me (believe that or not). I had blood, green yucky pus stuff, white pus stuff, and my ear drained quite a bit. You could always call and say look I have some new symptoms and just want to be sure everything is ok. When I was hospitalized last year they told me not to be concerned unless lots of clear fluid was coming out of my ear...apparently the clear fluid has something to do with your brain fluid?? I didn't ask questions because I have anxiety disorder so I felt I was ok since the drainage wasn't a clear fluid but more of a thick gross smelling one.

The gross smell is due to "rotting flesh" according my doctor. It's probably akin, to some dead road kill in the middle of the summer.

Brad...hahaha I wish!!! That is so funny you blamed it on the food. The worst part for me was driving in the car on hot days...it didn't matter if I had the air on or windows down my kids would say MOM your ear stinks so bad!!! I would say tell me about it try living with it on your head!!

That is so gross that it is rotting flesh...maybe that is why they had to remove quite a bit of dead tissue last year...guess putting it off for 6 yrs was a little to long...I do know that even though I don't like all the medical care this disease seems to need that I will not ignore it again. I will continue with the care because I do not want it getting bad and if it does come back I want it gone ASAP. I believe the longer you let it go the harder it is to get rid of the disease because it grows, does so much damage as we have noticed and can cause a funky smell.

I am so glad I am not the only one who had these issues. You feel so alone with family and friends look at you like are you crazy?? At least people in this group relate and we can post things that we normally wouldn't talk to others about and know that most likely someone else has experienced it as well.

Thanks for the laughs. Sure helps with the recovery. I am 1 week post op and doing awesome this time...they went through my ear rather than behind it and I have had no pain really...no dizzy spells either and this one was around the ear drum so I am feeling good. When is your surgery??

Yes, My daughter gets this to.  Use those doctor prescribed ear drops and don't miss a day.  I always call the smell like but crack smell. I would not worry about it coming from your brain.

Don't worry about blood, it comes from polyps due to c-toma and can easily be removed in the doctor's office.Nothing comes from your brain, but bad smell indicates ear infection and that's something you have to cure, it might damage even your brain if not treated. I had a very bad experience.Best wishessFrom: Wood <amandawood03@...>To:

CSF - cerebro-spinal fluid is clear/straw coloured. We had a scare after Quinn first op where he had clear fluid dripping out his ear. It was fine though. Doc had exposed his dura (outer brain membrane) in the surgery and was concerned that he may have nicked it.  If you have a severe headache it could be CSF, otherwise it's unlikely.

Keep the head end of bed elevated, if it is leak it will gradually stop in 10 to 15 days.

to confirm if it is CSF, get it tested for Glucose as we test urine by strip.

Good luck
