Guest guest
I wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar situation. I am 65 years old and never had ear trouble before until recently when I had blood come out of my left ear. It appears I had the cholesteatoma for a long time without ever knowing it. My surgery was a canal wall down done on July 16 2010 which means I have just passed the 6 month point. The surgery included repair of hole in eardrum along with earbone repair. Going into surgery my surgeon expected to do canal wall up, but I guess damage was more extensive than he realized. I was in surgery for about 4 hours. I have been seeing surgeon now in follow up about every 2 months. I still have not healed completely. He keeps removing scabbing as it does heal. He indicated that the ligament he placed as part of bone repair has not healed yet. It has been such a long process. I do not have any pain or physical restrictions but I do have perpetual fullness, tightness and general discomfort in my ear. I still have to use ciprodex drops twice a week and will be seeing doctor again in about 2 1/2 weeks. There has been no discharge from my ear which I guess is good. Has anyone else had a such a long recovery? I just would like to know when I can be normal feeling again.
Guest guest
Hello, No two cases are exactly the same, and we all might heel differently. But it seems like the kids in general heal faster than adults and I would guess a 65 year old heel less fast than a 30 year old. But when you don't have pain or discharge it sounds like you are going in the right direction. I had my canal wall down when I was 7, and I have always had discharge and pain from time to time. After all it is a rather large surgery. My husband had a knee surgery many years ago and are mostly doing fine but he says it is not 100% good. You might not get a ear as good as a new, but with time you will get used to it and don't notice it so much. Even so you could ask your doctor about it so that you can get some kind of explenation on why it is like it is. Good luck Wenche > > I wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar situation. > I am 65 years old and never had ear trouble before until recently when I had blood come out of my left ear.
