Guest guest
SOMETHING BIG IS HAPPENING and I want to be sure that you are all in on the action. The federal government (Dept. of Justice) is updating it's ADA access rules for the first time since 1991. The comments of Little People have been specifically solicited due to the spillover effect of access work that LPA began in 1994 on the ANSI A117.1 Committee on Accessible and Usable Public Buildings and Facilities. Members of LPA received a letter about this a couple of weeks ago from Tricia Mason and Judith Irving. Yesterday, Tricia posted the " Call to Action " on this listserv for those who may not have received the letter. I urge everyone to post their comments on the rulemaking or write a letter following the instructions in Tricia's post on August 8th at 5:01 p.m. The Dept. of Justice wants to know what Little People think! Let's not miss this amazing opportunity. For those who let the August 18th deadline pass by without taking action, BE WARNED that lowering the reach range from 54 to 48 inches in public places could slow down (or even cease) in existing facilities. I wouldn't want to hazard a guess at how long it could be before you can reach elevator buttons, ATMs, credit card readers, etc in your community. Sincerely, Van Etten LPA Delegate, ANSI A117.1 Committee (1994-2002)
