Guest guest
Over the years, my facial nerve has been pretty much destroyed by the c-toma. But mostly due to waiting too long between surgeries - that's when the real damage happened - I went about 10 years thinking I was out of the woods, and when the nerve quite suddenly went dead, that alerted me that something was wrong. The c-toma had made its way all the way to my dura, which required a craniotomy to remove. The irritation caused to the nerve during my past surgeries would heal during a period of a few weeks to a few months. But this time I was told it would probably not get better, so I was sent over to Facial Reconstruction and they connected part of my temporalis muscle to the side of my mouth. I am happy with the temporalis sling because it is an improvement over how it was - but not as good as I had hoped. Over a year has passed and it has not fully healed. It supports the tissue fairly well, but the amount I am able to move it by tensing the muscle is very slight.
