Guest guest
So far, I've only had one surgery in August '09. I didn't wear an hearing aid, but had 90db hearing loss (told that is severe and could have had an aid) in right ear where c-toma was. My hearing in that ear has improved to 30db loss -almost normal. I went to the hospital in the am if I remember it was around 9-10am, had to wait to go back into op room due to another patient before me. My surgery took 4-5 hours and I spent 14 hours overnight in the hospital. Probably because I was awake in recovery at 5pm and was extremely nauseas and had a 2-3 hour drive home, so I believe that is why they kept me overnight. I went home at 7:30am. Hope this helps good luck!Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: sydwee915@...Sender: cholesteatoma Date: Sun, 12 Jun 2011 16:45:16 -0000<cholesteatoma >Reply cholesteatoma Subject: Surgery this Wednesday June 15 (most likely around 10:30 am) ok as my surgery is approaching I have some questions: is there anyone who hasn't had to have more than one surgery? how long were your surgeries (I'm talking from when you arrived untill you got to leave). is there anyone who wore a hearing aid before and now doesn't need it? can anyone tell me what percentage of their hearing was restored if at all? just a few thoughts that have crossed my mind . thanks
Guest guest
Also, as said go to all follow-ups. I went every 3 months for a year, then every 6 months. I'm now on the 6 month rotation. Go through some older posts to see what everyone says as each case is different, but don't let some of them scare you! Guest guest
My daughter has been one of those who has needed many surgeries. Mostly, this is because hers was congenital as opposed to acquired, and also because pediatric cholesteatoma tends to be more aggressive for some reason. To encourage you, my friend Jane had this thirty years ago. One surgery and no sign of it since. Get through this one before you worry too much. A lot will depend on exactly what your surgeon finds in there. Guest guest
thank you KIm that actually does help alot. That hearing restoration is impressive. I have about an 80% loss. I'm kinda hoping that after the surgery I'll get enough back I won't need the aid. Did you have to have any type of reconstructive surgery after the C-toma surgery? > > So far, I've only had one surgery in August '09. Guest guest
I had all mine done in one surgery. He rebuilt my ear drum with facia (sp), scrapped the hearing bones, performed modified radical mastiodectomy, and removed both cholesteatoma and cholesterol granuloma. Fortunately or unfortunately for me the sigmoid plate mastiod were the only bones damaged and not any of the small hearing bones.Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: sydwee915@...Sender: cholesteatoma Date: Mon, 13 Jun 2011 08:36:03 -0000<cholesteatoma >Reply cholesteatoma Subject: Re: Surgery this Wednesday June 15 (most likely around 10:30 am) thank you KIm that actually does help alot.
