HI all

I recently joined this group. I had my surgery in Michigan in 2005. I'm 55 yrs

old. It has been one of the best things I ever did for my health. (HBP,Sleep

Apnea, pre-Diabetic, arthritis, Fibro - all pretty much in the past!!)

but now....It seems that I have had some health issues that I am not sure are

related to the MGB.

I have been trying to see if:

a. I should be taking more vitamins and what kinds???

I know I should take more than I do. I started Vitamin D3(4000iu/day). I

take iron, but i think it is the wrong kind.

b. Do I really have to do protein shakes?? I estimate that I eat about 50-60

gs of protein a day.

c. I am having hot flashes and night sweats AGAIN!! (this seems to be the

fourth year that I am having symptoms ..... not continually but several months

on and several months off.) Yesterday I ordered Bio-identical hormones to try.

They are topical cremes.

I need to sleep. My mid-section is larger than I would like. My skin is dry as

are other areas of my body. I look kinda pasty. My face no longer tans in the

summer so I have a weird coloring. (what is up with that?? I used to get such a

nice golden color??) BTW - I look much different from photos of me three or four

years ago...

I know that there are areas that I could step up more. But I am here because I

just don't feel fabulous anymore. I need some help and direction. I appreciate

all opinions.

I wandered around the Vitamin Shoppe yesterday, but I just couldn't quite focus

on what I needed. (I am a little bit fuzzy lately as well) I also wonder if I

can absorb any of those vitamins?? I read through the manual again. Is there a

post surgical manual?? I couldn't find the information I thought was there.

Do I need to get bariatric vitamins ?? If so from where?

Sorry for rambling.

My best to all!

Is it time for your blood work? If you get that done, then you'll know

what you are low in. Vitamins are good to take, for sure, but you need

to eat a very healthy diet, too. Lean proteins, fresh veggies and fruit,

whole grain carbs. I too have night sweats and hot flashes, it's just

part of the age. I'm 46, so I expect the peri-menopausal symptoms to

continue for a while-they say they can come and go for upwards of 10

years or longer! Ugh! There are some natural products you can take, like

Black Cohosh that is supposed to help, although I've not noticed a

difference. I did recently order some " moisture wicking " pajamas to help

me out.

Could you be dehydrated? I know when I'm feeling fuzzy it is often

directly related to dehydration. Licking salt off my palm, or drinking a

Gatorade helps me out. It really sounds like you need to get some blood

work done.

On the protein front, you may be eating 50-60 grams, but how much are

you absorbing? It is recommended that we get in 60-80 grams a day, so

you are a bit shy even if you were to absorb all that you eat. You may

be protein deficient! Try a good quality protein drink, like Unjury, and

see if you don't improve. If you are low in iron, then the best kind to

take is Proferrin, which you can order on-line from Colorado Bio labs.

But there's no need to take extra of something if you aren't deficient.

For vitamins, any OTC will pretty much work. I personally like Unjury's

Bariatric chewable. I only need one a day, so cost wise it works out to

about the same as most OTC brands that I'd have to take three times a

day. Plus their ingredients are better managed, they don't use any

ingredients from China-the best you can do in an unregulated market.

Does DrD still take phone calls from his former patients? If he doesn't,

then I'm sure Dr R will. Give him a call and see what he says. He may

have better advice for you.

Good luck, -Jane! Let us know how it all goes! I'm sorry I don't

have more to offer.
