Guest guest
One more negative thing in this idea- you have to be with at least 2 years work experience to be capable to apply for ORE. So you have to realise for how long should you stay there in India...Thanks,KamalaSent from my BlackBerry® wireless deviceFrom: Irene Liang <tzube@...>Date: Sat, 17 Apr 2010 16:19:11 -0700 (PDT)< >Subject: Re: Hey guys There are several reasons for not going to India to get degree and coming back. First, it's typically easier to get licensed in the place you go to school. If you go abroad, there is not as much guarantee that you can go back. It's just so much more troublesome, which is why so many are discouraging it. Also, the reputation of UK and Western European dental schools are typically better and you might have more problems getting a job than a UK grad in the end. In the US, the same thing happens and I see a bunch of people who go abroad to do their dental or medical education, Mexico, China, India, etc. However, they have a very hard time coming back here and when they eventually do, it's harder to get hired into private practice. If you try to get into UK school for next year, you might save yourselfa lot of trouble in the end. I know a guy who got rejected from US medical school 2 years in a row, thought about applying abroad. But he tried one more time and got in and is now a practicing doctor, no regrets about time lost. A couple of years may seem like a lot when you're young, but it's really no big deal, especially when you are finally practicing in the place you want to be. However dentistry is a very lucrative profession in the UK and I am willing to spend another extra year taking the ORE after coming back from India. Coming back to the UK will be no problem for me as I have a british passport, but I am worried about the ORE but if so many dentists from India come and pass it then why wont I be able to as long as I study hard and prepare I should clear it hopefully.I am not to keen on going to european dental schools as I have heard a lot of negatives about going there from first hand expereiences, for example the fail rate there is very high etc for example out of 80 students only 35 actually pass and get the degree plus examination is very tough and differnt there, so there is no garuntee that ill even be a dentist if i go there, whereas in India there is and if that means another year taking the ORE so be it.Why do people think this is not a good idea? Guest guest
Hey guys Erm thanks for all your replies its made me re-think this decision again and I am starting to think that this may be a bad idea in the end. However I wanted to know after you pass the ORE exam what is the next step in order to get a job in the UK will you have to do Vocational trainig to work for the NHS or is it possible to get a job without the training. Like what are all your plans after you pass the ORE will you apply for the VT posts or work privately? Thanks again
Guest guest
Hi . This Wednesday will be 3 weeks post op (2nd surgery in 6 weeks for this disease) for me and I just saw my surgeon Friday and I was concerned because part of my ear and around the ear were still numb. He told me it should go away with time. I am not sure in your case but that is something I would definitely ask during your post op appt. 6 weeks ago I had emergency surgery due to complications and the first week after that emergency surgery I had a very difficult time focusing...I thought it was because of all the medications they used because I am not used to taking so much medications and the anesthesia. If I were you I would call the surgeon tomorrow and double check on that. Just to be safe you know what I mean. This is a very delicate are they are working in and I wouldn't want to take any chances. Hope everything is healing well for you. Guest guest
Definitely check with doctor, there are several nerves which can be impacted with this type of surgery and one of the big risks is that facial numbness can result if the nerve is impacted.Hope you return to normal soon! Guest guest
Greetings, . I am almost 4 weeks post-op. I have a similar problem with numbness. The top part of my ear is numb, as well as, a strip about an inch or so above my ear. When I asked my Dr. about this he explained that is the area he borrowed some tissue or bone for a graft that was needed in my ear. He said the numbness should go away in a few weeks. As for the problem with your eyes, this could be as simple as a bit of swelling that should go away soon. I know I had some swelling that affected the bite of my jaw. On day 2 of my post-op I could hardly put my jaw teeth together. I have had several other types of surgeries, including a 2 disk diskectomy and fusion in my neck. In all of my surgeries I have found that time is your best friend. All of my post-op problems in other surgeries have gone away given enough time. With that said, you are the only person that knows how you ACTUALLY feel. Don't be afraid to keep on top of the eye problem if it doesn't correct by the time you think is reasonable for it to go away. Hang in there. It gets better daily. Guest guest
Hi , Do you have numbness on the top of your head or on your face? If so, your nerve may have been disturbed during surgery. It will be normal for your ear to feel numb for several months. I had palsy from the cholesteatoma and it made one side of my face numb (before surgery) and it affected my eye as well. Guest guest
Oh that is good to know because my numbness is the top part of my ear. At least it goes away with time. That is good to hear. Guest guest
, I had surgery in September as well and yes my ear feels different. I still have some numbness and tingling too. Guest guest
A little humor to start the day.... Give yourself a 'wet willie' then see if you feel it! If you can't muster the dignity to do it yourself, have someone else give you one. LOL!! On a serious note...Almost 4 years after surgery my ear feels different, like its numb, but I have gotten use to it. Just need to do routine inflation of the u-tube daily and I can hear out of it better. -Nate From: amanda <boobabyhm21@...>cholesteatoma Sent: Thu, February 3, 2011 5:58:22 PMSubject: hey guys I was just wondering does anyone else ear feel different after surgery. Guest guest
Thanks for asking this question as I have the same question. I don't like to fly much to begin with, but before surgery it was very painful (take off was worse than landing). I believe the last couple of times I flew (before surgery) my very scarred eardrum even tore from the pressure change - it sounded like a wind tunnel for a short while and then stopped. I had surgery a couple of months ago and have a new eardrum and am flying in August. I, too, wonder how the pressure will be on the new eardrum. > > I had surgery september of last year and I am wanting to fly somewere. So I was wondering if it is going to hurt when we get up in the air?
