You have accomplished a major hurtle to say the least. I hope you find that your chair gives you a lot more freedom and independence. I know I wouldn't have much of a life without mine! We have a small 20 pound dog and in the 8+ years he has lived with me I have been totally shocked that I have never hit him. That would definitely be a part of my worst nightmare! I really can't figure it out but I guess he can hear my chair coming. If I am laying down on the bed or couch he will get up beside me but I think the chair kind of scares him too because he hesitates to put his paws up on it for me to pet him and if someone put him on my lap he wants to get down right away. I have heard other people tell similar stories about their pets. Good luck with the cats. I am sure it will become something they are familiar with soon. And by the way, my family likes to take my chair too!!! LOL!!! As many of you know, my physical condition has been getting worse with my ability to walk and the arthritis. In order to avoid hip replacement surgery, I had been in the process of getting a power wheelchair. After several months and the professionals pushing the insurance to pay for it, I received my new power wheelchair yesterday. It is now home and I can use it inside my apartment. My husband, Luke and his step dad are going to put in a small ramp to get up the small step going to the bathroom, then it will be fully accessible. I have been using it a little bit and the cats apparently do not like being chased around the house with by the chair. They are awfully confused about this device and wondering why Mommy is on a machine that moves. They will get used to it eventually. Hopefully when they get used it it, they will know to get out of the way...they do not always move out of the way when I drive my car into the driveway because they know " mommy won't hurt them and it's her car " ...I can't see them! Anyways, my next step, in the spring, is to find a way to get a mini-van and put a ramp in it. At least if the weather is nice, I can go to the local post office and stores without using my car and save on gas. However, many of the business in my town are not wheelchair accessible... And Yes, Luke admitted that he tried it a little bit before I got home...just like a big kid... ~ a
Guest guest
One of our two dogs was initially afraid (okay, terrified) of ' chair, but she soon adapted. He has occasionally run over MY TOES, but has yet to run over a dog. Guest guest
Well, I know animals and kids can adapt pretty quickly and I love hearing these stories. It's funny because the cat I thought that would be terrified is more concerned and watches from under the table...the other one, I thought would be just hesitant, is scared to death and stays in the bathroom. There isn't a small ramp to get into it yet...and I think he knows this. I am excited that things are starting to fall into place. One day at a time and I feel like I'm more than 1/2 way closer to my goal! ~ a > > > > > > > From: dwarfism <dwarfism%40> [mailto: > > dwarfism <dwarfism%40>] > > Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2008 8:33 AM > > dwarfism <dwarfism%40> > > Subject: Digest Number 4191 > > > > Congratulations a!
