Hello everyone,

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Please check out LPA's Adoption blog at:

http://lpaadoption.blogspot.com

There are many children available for adoption right now, and some have grants

to help with adoption costs. In particular, there is a 13 year old boy in China

on the list who will phase out of the adoption process this year. If this

happens, he will be most likely institutionalized. He is reportedly advanced in

his school work, and has achondroplasia. He is a very handsome young man.

Thanks for all of your support!

Thanks for all that you do Colleen!

I really hope the blog and articles about adoption can be in future LPA Today's.

I did read the requirements for China, I am surprised that with their extreme

over population and one child limit, they are so picky on who can adopt.  Are

some of those requirements waved specifically for LP parents adopting LP

children?  That BMI was harsh, not sure if I'd even meet that, even though in

the current LPA Today issue, it was stated AP BMI and LP BMI can not be compared

in the same way.

Are there ever LP kids up for adoption in Western Europe or in the Americas?

:)

Hi, ,

Thanks for your email - it's wonderful that you're interested in adoption.

From my experience, China only allows people who have dwarfism to adopt children

with dwarfism, specifically. In other words, if an LP wanted to adopt a child

without special needs or even a different special need, it would be more

difficult. Not saying it's impossible, because it depends on the age, etc, but

China's requirements are rather strict.

As for BMI, usually people who are adopting get their Doctors to explain what

the BMI numbers mean, or maybe even alter the BMI number according to a

different formula. I'm not a big fan of the BMI, myself.

There are rarely adoptions available here, but they do happen, and we have a

waiting list for parents who are interested in domestic adoptions. As for

Western Europe, most of those countries do not adopt outside of their country,

so people from the US would not be able to obtain a home study for those

countries. Eastern European countries, however, are still allowing adoptions

from other countries. (Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Russia are good examples).

Thanks!

Colleen
