Guest guest
I hope this may encourage some people who are still on the fence about this surgery. I had my MGB with Dr. P on 12/7/07, and 6 1/2 months later, I am down 101 lbs (324 to 223). The last time I weighed 223 was probably 37 years ago. My diabetes has been gone since immediately following surgery; my blood pressure is improved; my sleep apnea is gone; my atrial fibrulation is gone; and carrying around 100 lbs less weight has ended my foot and joint pain. My BMI has gone from 44 to 30, and according to the BMI calculator, I am nearly in the normal range. I had my 6 months bloodwork done on 6/5/08, and my PCP was excited about the results. Following are some of those values: Total Cholestrol - 114 HDL Cholesterol - 56 LDL Cholesterl - 47 Triglycerides - 53 Hemoglobin A1C - 5.2 Vitamin B12 - 327 Vitamin B6 - 25.9 Vitamin D - 42.7 Total Protein - 6.5 Iron, Serum - 55 (started taking Chromagen for Iron on 6/13/08) I have had no problems at all, including no hair loss, but I must say that I have been following Dr. P's instructions concerning eating and supplements and getting lots of exercise. I would still like to lose another 25 to 35 lbs, and I am confident that I will. For me, this surgery has been one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I would do it again without hesitation.
