Power Wheelchair

Well, I wanted to send an update on my situation. As many of you know, my

physical condition has been getting worse with my ability to walk and the

arthritis. In order to avoid hip replacement surgery, I had been in the process

of getting a power wheelchair.

After several months and the professionals pushing the insurance to pay for it,

I received my new power wheelchair yesterday. It is now home and I can use it

inside my apartment. My husband, Luke and his step dad are going to put in a

small ramp to get up the small step going to the bathroom, then it will be fully

accessible.

I have been using it a little bit and the cats apparently do not like being

chased around the house with by the chair. They are awfully confused about this

device and wondering why Mommy is on a machine that moves.

They will get used to it eventually. Hopefully when they get used it it, they

will know to get out of the way...they do not always move out of the way when I

drive my car into the driveway because they know " mommy won't hurt them and it's

her car " ...I can't see them!

Anyways, my next step, in the spring, is to find a way to get a mini-van and put

a ramp in it. At least if the weather is nice, I can go to the local post office

and stores without using my car and save on gas. However, many of the business

in my town are not wheelchair accessible...

And Yes, Luke admitted that he tried it a little bit before I got home...just

like a big kid...
