Guest guest
My almost three year old son had a tympanmastoidectomy yesterday afternoon. We adopted him into our family earlier this year from China. He has bilateral cleft lip and palate (repaired in China), although we will need further revision to the palate. He, Josiah, did very well during the surgery but the doctor said the cholesteatoma was very large, " a 9.5 on a 10 point scale. " Our doctor indicated that if we had not discovered this condition, it would have taken his life. This group was recommended to me by a friend from the cleft group. I'm wanting to learn from other's experiences. I'm a bit discouraged by the frequent " second look " surgeries that are in our future. He is being fitted for a hearing aid for the right ear and will begin speech therapy soon. He is doing well with recovery but has an upset tummy from all the medication. I feel like I'm faking it until I get my mind wrapped around this!
Guest guest
Don't get too overwhelmed! Each of our daughter's surgeries have come one at a time, and in spite of her many surgeries, she is living a happy and normal life! Many children require only the one second look, so try not to look too far down that road:) Hopefully, he is feeling better by now. Children usually seem to recover quickly from tympanoplasty surgery. It always amazes me!
