I can't tell you specifically anything about BCBS of NC but I can

tell you that it is possible to get these surgeries paid for --

because UHC paid for all four of these for me. In fact, I had a

lower body lift in 02/03, a thigh lift in 03/03 and a breast lift/arm

lift in 11/03.

You HAVE to do your homework though. I spent literally about 6

months documenting things. I went to my PCP any time I had the

slightest problem with my skin. I went to a dermatologist and

documented all skin problems - including a condition called

hidradenitis in skin creases which are actually blocked sweat glands

and can be a major source of infection (in fact this lead to my

mother's death almost 5 years ago). I also went to an orthopedist

and documented arthritis in my low back, neck and both hips. I was

referred to physical therapy for this also. I got letters from each

of these physicians along with office notes and submitted them along

with the physical therapy notes when my surgeon submitted for

approval of the procedures. It is worth the time and effort on your

part (as well as finding a surgeon who is willing to be something

other than self-pay!) - you can at least in some cases get the

procedures paid for. I am very glad I worked hard at approval!

I am now 17 months out from the LBL and I think my scars look great.

They are " visible " obviously but not horrible in any way. The scar

on the back side is just below my natural waist and goes to my

sides. At the sides it angles down toward a " hair line " incision in

the front, like for a hysterectomy or C-section. The incision is

basically over my hip bones as it angles from the " higher " incision

to the " lower " incision in the front. You can't even see the scar

around my repositioned belly button. I really don't know what the

surgeon charged but I think the LBL was about $20K -- UHC paid for

all my reconstructive surgeries.

Would I do them again - in a heartbeat!

Thanks for your response. Just starting to contemplate whether it is worth doing

or not.

my plastic surgery was WAY worse than mgb seeing how my mgb kept me

out of commission about 30 hours altogether! 24 of which were in a

hospital.... my tummy tuck was worst , i was unable to do much for

10 days. i was getting up from a chair without help and able to

sleep in an actual bed by 5 days out from it! a lot of folks bounce

back fast.... it was welll worth it but geeeez it was no fun! the

boobs.... piece of cake 48 hrs would have been more than enough

recovery time. mgb made me REAL sore like doing sit ups... thats

about it! good luck!!

I would like to know the name and price of the Docs in Mexico that do breast lifts, that only Dr. A approves of because I would trust he's recommendation, and probably be the only way I could afford it. thanks

I think it sucks! I can remember when....well before kids, the girls were a 38 B and that was perfect for me. I wouldn't even mind a 38 C. Well, then there is the tummy. I think I might have Curtis take a pic when I get down closer to goal. It looks terrible now, I can't imagine what it will look like closer to goal. And for those wondering if exercise could have prevented it, no way. Inside, my abs are tight. No, this is from weighing 300lbs at one point after having my second son, then gaining, then losing several times in the last 10 years. The rest of me is looking ok, my legs and thighs and butt (at least Curtis think so!) but the tummy and the boobs are heading south.

I am considering lipo and a tummy tuck but I am scared of the pain.

I have lost 36 lbs and noticed the difference in my legs and arms but

unfortunately my two big guns (my arms) have not shrunk yet.

, I was just curious as to how he was going to even the girls. I

have the same problem, I can't find a good bra because I have a D and a

C so if I buy a D it won't hold the C upright and if I buy a C then the

D has meat hanging out of it. I think this happened after I had a baby.

In my case, it is a medical condition I was born with. I don't

remember the name of the syndrome, but one breast did not grow and at

the age of 11 I had an implant put in. Yes, at 11 I was very well

developed. I was told I had to change it after I finished growing up

because I would be uneven. Never did get around to it. So I am

severely uneven. Depends on how I end up after losing all the

weight. I may need nothing more than one implant to catch up with the

normal size one, or I may need a lift, etc.

, I swear we have some kind of connection cosmically. My cousin, who I was raised with and call a sister, had the same condition (whatever it is called) and also had an implant at a very young age. I think she was 12. She had it redone later. Until you, I had not met anyone else that had the same problem. In fact, I don't think SHE has either. Maybe I can put you two in touch?

HI there

I just hit 149.5 lbs yesterday....my lowest weight in ten years now and just passed my own original personal goal of 150. I have been noticing for a while that I have this really big bunch of flabby skin on my armshanging down that jiggles when I raise my arms and seriously flaps if I wave or do something similar. My tummy basically is a wrinkled up road map. I am still feelin glike,...one thing at a time. I'd like to see myself get to goal,..(whatever that is) and just maintain for about a year, before I'll consider any surgery. This way it gives me a chance to put some money together,...it gives my body a chance to catch up to any excess skin it may be able to catch up to...and I feel like I'm not rushing into anything.

Good luck to you and keep us up to date aon your decisions and process.

Thanks

Hi Suzanne, my name is also Suzanne. I just had surgery with Dr. Don and I

highly recommend him. You will find he is so personable, caring and will call

you daily to see how you are doing after the surgery. He did an excellent

tummy tuck and breast augmentation for me. I can't think of having this work

done

with anyone else!

I just got home from his office about 30 mins ago. Very nice, compassionate,

and knowledgeable doctor. I, personally, used Dr Tucker - who has an

office right across the street from Dr Don in Charlotte.

Today I took my fiance to consult with both Dr's. Choosing a PS is a very

personal decision. It will not be a one-time visit so I strongly suggest that

you get 2nd and 3rd consultations and choose whomever you feel most

comfortable with, confident in, and I would also advise that you do (as you are

doing)

your homework and ask around for people's experiences.

HI Anne, if you have hernia surgery, they should apply for insurance on

that. Also, according to your insurance, they might pay according to ill health

you are subject to due to the excess skin. Such as yeast infections in areas,

etc.

My doc would do breast augmentation and tummy tuck but not lip at the same

time. He said he felt it was too much interference with blood vessels to add

injury of tummy tuck in conjunction with other surgeries. he said you damage

blood vessels by doing lipo and when you did tummy tuck you also did vessel's

damage. He didn't like doing too much of that.

I went to Dr. Don in Salisbury, NC. He's a wonderful doc and I'm very happy

with his work!

Ask if you have any questions!

Hi Anne,

I have had several procedures, breast lift and implants, extended

tummy tuck, arm lift, and a face lift, and several major liposuctions

in my thighs, and flanks and back. I have an excellent resource

center of plastic surgeons living here in So. California. But, don't

forget. Your WLS was a big tax exemption and my tax lady has been

able to write off all of my other procedures as they are

considered " reconstructive " because of the MGB! So, I have had a

major surgery each summer that has been mainly financed through my

tax refunds from my previous tax year! No one seems to mention this

when they are talking about getting reconstuction after our big

weight losses! So, don't forget, there are ways to get some

assistance on the costs.

If anyone wants the names of some fabulous Plastic surgeons in

Southern Cal email me and I will share their names. But, leave out Dr

90210...he would not even consult with me, as his nurse said he does

not like to do weight loss patients as our blood vessels are too

large and we are therefore " bleeders " ! Ha, so I said to heck with him

I went elsewhere, had great success, with no problems.

Speaking of large blood vessels I have something that bothers me and I

wonder if there is any way to minimize it. The veins on my arms are very large

and pronounced looking since losing the weight. It looks like one of those

body builder arms. It is noticeable on my forearms. Anybody else have this

issue and any ways to fix?

Thanks!
