Hi group!

I was banded on 2/10/06. I lost around 20 lbs before my first fill.

Now towards the end of the time before the fill, I was able to eat

everything. I was really disappointed because I thought the band was

suppose to be working in full force. I stopped losing weight and

just stayed there. No scale moving. I also began to get addicted to

the scale and weighted myself daily in the first 6 weeks. I would be

excited for the downs and disappointed for the ups. This is such old

diet behavior for me. I use to base my mood on the scale. What a

good therapist it was. HAH! I didn't have the PBing problems (yet)

and began to lose faith that this banded thing was working. I was

suppose to lose 40 lbs the first two month right? Well, something

really strange did start to happen. The scale never really moved

back up. All diets I had been on and I felt this kind of

frustration, the scale would start going right back up to where it

started and I would feel the dread. It never went up more than ,5 to

1 lb. (Depended if it was AM or PM)

I had my first fill on 4/18/06. The whole way back to Mexico I was

drinking my H20 and a green starbucks creation ( Not a diet food).

For the first time I thought I ordered a 16 oz drink, I am sure it

was a bigger one than that. I have always been drink finisher. I

could not finish it. This is a big differance. Anyway to the fill.

The fill was an odd thing. There I was back with banded crew. Nina,

Yolanda, Surgio, Dr. A and everyone. I was the last to go into the

room. Dr. A, brings out a little needle. I was thinking Wow, that's

small. Well it was the numbing stuff. No problem. Then Here comes

the BIG MoMMA NEEDLE. It was huge. Watching the band and needle

with the fluoroscope was cool. When he let the needle stick in my

stomach and it wiggled as he let go - yet still sticking in there-

was way strange. He filled it up. At first it was ok, Drink goes

down, then more fill, drink stops. I had a mouth full of water and

couldn't even say " too much " . Dr. A quickly figured it out and let

out some of the saline. Down the Water went. What a weird

sensation. Then with a quick yank- pop- the needle comes out. Done.

No big deal. This is my only complaint of the whole experience. I

was with a wonderful group of women. They were so neat. But when I

got out of the room the question often came up, " How much was your

fill? " When I left the room I did not ask or did I really care. I

just wanted it to work. It was like if it wasn't a certain # of

saline then it wasn't good enough. My friend came with me and did not

have her fill work to the best and will need to go back. To my

understanding it is better to be on the safe side. If the fill is

not enough then go back and get another. If it is too much there is

too much of a risk of complications, as some have had on this board.

Now that I have had my fill. I have to work on the whole eating

thing over again. Some stuff goes down great. I can eat fish,

veggies, meat, you know the healthy stuff. Bad stuff that does not

go down are Mcs (everything), I just had a Red Lobster biscut

and it is still painfully stuck sitting like a rock in my back, and

some other wonderful really bready products. I experienced my first

real BPing and oh gosh it helped the rock in my back. I never

thought the relief would be there. My weight is slowly coming off.

I have lost 4 lbs since the fill, and have started exercising this

week. I am learning to eat slow. I get lonely at the dinner table

because people get sick of waiting for me. I have not learned my

full signal yet and have pain when I have gone too far. I am liking

the band thing, but I am learning about it too. To those who are new

like me, my advise is to be patient. Everyone is different in the

pace they lose weight and have the non scale victories (NSV) are as

important as the numbers. Some will be able to eat Mc'D but hey not

me. I love the different advice and insight people share on the

band. Keep on sharing and asking the question.

Tricia,

I loved the post! I am glad you figured out that the band doesn't work until

the fill get's right. Congrats on your success!
